You already know my thoughts on this :)

It'll be fun to hit up a few Eastside cruises together when complete!

Absolutely mate. I’m super keen to follow the journey here too - would love to learn more about the full end to end process.

Nah mate! Will never sell her car. Way too much sentimental value! It's brought both our girls home from the hospital when they were born just like it her dad did when she was a baby!

That is a great piece of family history, nice to have. I would also never sell that, enjoy!

That’s so awesome Matt. Love the shadowed Brock and Marlboro signage underneath. Gorgeous.

Saw this at the show on the weekend. I think this thread needs an update.

Looked absolutely awesome.

I just realised that I never shared the video that I created on the transformation in this thread!

https://youtu.be/IrP5vuaBmCA

I've also got a dedicated page on my website about it with a heap more photos: https://therendergar...project-torana/

I took the car to MotorEx a couple of months back as I had a stand there for my new business. I was absolutely stoked to win my first ever trophy for the car, winning the Wrapstars award for best printed wrap!

Do you know what Matt, I've been thinking about this - and have decided that your finished product is quite possibly cooler than Brocky's original race car livery! haha. It's also quite amazing how the Convo Pro's give an overall period look in a way too (thanks to those black centres).

Congrats on the trophy - absolutely deserved.

How's the car holding up now that it's been out and about a bit this year?

haha! Thanks mate. The car is holding up really well. We touched up a couple of really minor areas of the car just before MotorEx. two spots where a straps rubbed on the front flares when I towed it to Summernats and then I also fixed up the windscreen banner, HOLDEN on the drop tank and the GTX on the headlights as I wasn't 100% happy with the scale compared to the real race car. Now they are bang on and everything is perfect! It was pretty easy to do the touch ups! Much easier than if I've rubbed paint off!

HAHAHA - Thanks mate!! I had to do something a bit different - I still just go down to the shed and stare at it in amazement!

Thanks Daniel - the hardest bit by far is talking to the camera on not feeling like an absolute knob - HAHAHA! In the end though, I'm super proud of how it all came together. I'm even keen to make some more videos on the car - not sure what but it was good fun... I reckon something with some spirited driving would make for a good video.

When I was playing with my tilt tray I found some GRUNT stuff at Bunnings.

They have a slotted tray that bolts to the deck, and various fittings that fit into the slots.

One of which is a wheel chock. 2 different sizes from memory.

The other handy bits are rings that also slot in.

Perhaps a chock for the wheel and a ring each end for the straps might help?

Or you could add a second ring either forward or rearward of the wheel and anchor the ratchet horizontally.

You can keep the straps etc very close to the tyre and the deck for clearance issues.

Cheers

Rob

I thought I'd give a bit of an update to the car.

After years of abuse and belittling from guys like Heath, Tim (RIM-010) and Shannon (TUF253) I've decided to ditch the auto in favour for a manual! Years ago when I built the 355, I was convinced I was going to go racing all the time and that an auto was going to help me get my best times... Well over 10 years has passed since I built this motor and guess how many times I've been racing..... ZERO!

Mainly because I never trusted the box to not blow up and I was just never happy with how it drove. I also really missed driving a manual, I had been toying up with buying a late model weekend car with a manual in it before realising that that money would be better spent on converting the Torana to a manual.

So I had a chat with Mal Wood about the latest Tremec TKX 5-spd and their kit to suit. Instead of trying to save a couple of bucks and source everything individually (I don't have time for that these days). I bit the bullet and ordered everything directly from them!

It was a few months of waiting as these boxes are in pretty high demand, but it arrived the other week (just in time to be a nice little birthday present to myself!).

So the plan is to now get the old TH700 out and the whole new set up installed... Last year I invested in a hoist for the shed which makes pretty much every job SO much easier.

So Heath & Shannon, when are you coming over to lend a hand? haha

Excellent! I wish I could do the exact same thing to mine. Looking forward to hearing how this goes.

By the way - I'd expect you should be able to get some decent coin for the TH700 - especially being a low km box.

I am so, so pleased. :D

The TKX just seems universally loved. I've been driving mine the last few days with the TKO and I quite like it, but the TKX is a better product for sure. And should be a breeze to install compared to a TKO, also.

I may be able to make some time to assist if you need.

You should mate! Welcome to have a steer of mine when its all done!

Getting some good coin for my TH700 is what got it over the line with Maddy, she wasn't keen on me dropping $10k on all the gear for the TKX swap, but I reckon I can make a fair chunk of that back selling all my auto gear along with some other stuff in the shed that's taking up space and never getting used!

  I can't wait to take it for its first spin, I'm making a start on ripping out the old set up today.

I might need a hand setting up the alignment of the bellhousing and stuff in a couple of weeks time, it would be sweet if you could swing past and lend a hand. Having not worked on the car for so long, it's amazing what you forget! So it'd be good to have a 2nd set of eyes look over things.

Can't wait! It was funny, I had a read back through the thread last night and I had to laugh at some of my comments on how good the TH700 was going to be!

Nice.

And happy birthday ;)

Cheers mate! Getting old now, been hanging round these forums for well over half my life now!

Haha mate, you should find the person who helped you form that good expectation for the TH700 and give them a stern talking to.

Can do. I've got a dial gauge we clock it up with, and I even have some offset dowels if it's way out from where it should be.
Just got to find some time.

10k? Wow. It would want to be a great gearbox. I assume it includes crossmember, tailshaft, etc etc?
