Why did you paint over the orange before it was wrapped?

Why did you paint over the orange before it was wrapped?

I had a few rust repairs done, and I also wanted to paint all the door jams and stuff black so that I didn't get any orange poking through. I had always planned that when the wrap came off that I would be bare metalling it and doing it properly... I just didn't expect it to happen this way.

I reckon stick with MRLXSS. As you said it’s been a big part of your life and looks like it will continue to be. It’s been through a number of phases and this is just the next one, albeit a bit bigger one!  I’ll be watching with interest. Dale looks pretty talented too. .

Love the YouTube update Matt - this will be great to watch as things progress with Dale. Stripping it right back to its bare metal bones, getting everything sorted - and then upgrading with some nice mods - it must be damn exciting thinking about the end goal. Without the accident it wouldn't be happening, so that's one positive you can take away from all that.

As for retaining the MRLXSS identity - great question. It's still very valid and appropriate in today's environment - and it'd be nice to retain that nostalgic link. But if you happen to come up with something better, then no harm done.

Keep us posted on here mate - really looking forward to the updates.

I thought I'd share a bit of an update on my hatch, some of you might have already seen it but for those who haven't seen it posted a video on what happened with my hatch on YouTube.

Check it out here:

https://youtu.be/L2B...NEGTUodRQW88CgG

Street Machine also did a really neat little write up on it which summarises it all really nicely!

I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into the rebuild and building the car I've always dreamed of! I'll try to keep this thread updated as I progress, I'm still tossing up if I take it back to its MRLXSS moniker or come up with something fresh to reflect what it is now! Keen to hear what others think.

Cheers,
Matt

Stick with MRLXSS I reckon, though most forum members would probs say. Ha ha. It's how I knew it was the Orange car I first saw on here, which I now connect to Render Garage. And yeah, please keep updating here on this forum, it's  a much nicer place than that FaceAche bin fire.

Hey Guys,

I dropped the 2nd video to the series the other day on YouTube!

https://youtu.be/IdF...YWUKyjNeW51dYFN

It's starting to take some pretty good shape now, its also great to less smashed in panels on the car!

We're almost at the point now where things start going back onto the car.

A few main things from the latest video:

I managed to connect with the previous owner who actually did the repair and he sent me a few photos from the early 90s!

I also managed to find a complete NOS Rear Quarter!

I've been keeping up with the videos, big progress already.

It's awesome to see you bringing it back.

Sounds like you've been pretty lucky with how all the damage has pulled out so far.

Loving the videos too. So refreshing to watch something of this nature - cool people bringing cool cars back to life, with a nice mix of education and just random Torana talk. Tracing back the history of the car is awesome too.

Well done on sourcing all the bits - especially that NOS rear quarter!

Great to see the Hatchback is on the repair Matt & the Torana community helping out with the hard to find parts.
Looking forward to the next update

Thanks - I'm honestly amazed no one else has done similar before!

Really enjoying the Videos, it's going to be quite interesting watching how the flares and rear spoiler come up.

How expensive is it getting the car/ parts scanned?

Thanks mate!

I bought my own 3D Scanner last year as I really want to do more and more of this stuff. I bought the Einstar Vega which set me back a couple of grand last year.
