I was under the impression that all LH-UC, L4-V8 cars were fitted with a front swaybar (only one type) from the factory.

Is this not the case?

The K-Frame in my car doesn't have holes for the swaybar's U-bolts; where the swaybar is clamped to the crossmember towards the rear of it
(my car came with no front swaybar).

The lwr wishbones have the angled boss kinda thing for the connecting shaft thing to fit through. Was there a different kind of swaybar which mounted in a different style? Didn't get clamped against the crossmember?

I think it is an LH L6/V8 K-frame

No I know a lot of the early ones didn't have them at all, changed mid LX I believe. Mine's a late 76 LX 253 V8 and it never had one, they have the holes in the LCA but not in the cross member as you've described. You can just drill the cross member and fit one as long as it doesn't foul on your extractors.

Edit: mine's an SS too

From my understanding all RTS (Radial Tuned Suspension) equipped Toranas 4,6 & V8 got swaybars from factory, but pre-RTS Toranas only got swaybars from factory on V8 & or SLR models. I'm sure more knowledgeable people may correct me.

My "Spotlight on" says..
LH
SLR Stabiliser bar front
LX
Front bar SLR and SS Hatchback
Rear bar
SLR/SS and V8 models.
Explains why they handled like shit...

RTS Post April 77
Front bar all models.
Rear bar all models
Explains why they handled so much better.

Didn't the A9X have a front swaybar which was 'reversed'? i.e, went forward from the control arms?

I would like to fit this design to my car, as the front swaybar mounts are the first thing to hit the ground when my car bottoms out. I've replaced them 3 times due to damage.
One steering specialist (when I was getting a wheel alignment) asked me if I had been jumping my car!

One day, when I have too much money...

Not in standard road form from factory.

Also RTS was first released with the Sunbirds built from around Sept 1976. The official release was November 1976.
All others received the update from build dates of around Feb 1977. offical release not sure of but probably that April 1977 date mentioned by Rorym.

Probably better for them to hit the ground, than the extractors, which is the first thing on many cars.

Were all sway bars the same diameter? LH, LX, UC? All interchangeable?

How sturdy are those mounting brackets? They look like they might flex a bit.

They're quite solid against up/down movement, thicker material than the control arms
