Eric actually helped me to improve my existing throttle cable bracket assembly, which I was stoked about as it meant I didn't need to replace the whole setup. Specifically, he corrected my twin spring setup - my inner and outer return springs were not doing what they should, so a new inner spring got thrown in and a slight re-rig of how they mounted to my home made bracket seems to have resolved all issues there. Another nice little job to tick off the list!

Nice one.  Good to not have to re-jig the whole thing. Cheers Ron

Guessing base plate of aircleaner might smooth out air entry into carb less turbulent than no air cleaner at all.

Apparently the slightly raised/curved baseplates work better than lower flat versions & so too does volume size of air cleaner like trying 14x5 versus 14x3 or 9x2 against 9x5.

The air cleaner/filter gives laminar rather than turbulent flow and assuming it is correctly sized is worth extra power over no air cleaner.

Is your K&N also fitted with the “extreme” filter lid?

Yeah funny you guys mention the air-cleaner bases - Eric was saying the same thing. I'd like to try a drop-base style at some stage too.

rexy - my K&N one is just the round element (I still run a polished alloy top). Have looked at those extreme lids in the past but have never opened the wallet for one, but have only heard good things about them.

Feeling nostalgic tonight, so thought I'd share some old videos - crappy quality, but it wouldn't be nostalgic if it was too nice right?

2004 Burnout Comp at Easternats:

2007 Club Skidpan Day - certainly not taking the course seriously on this particular attempt:

Enjoy! Have a laugh?

Matty's film project from high school. Oscar-level acting by you fellas to boot!

Oi Brett do you reckon I could give you a few pineapples for a deposit and take the keys like old mate in the video?

Haha Oscar-level indeed - jeeeeez Heath, that's such an epic dig from the fun old days! Very early forum crew there.

In hind-sight, the $50 deposit probably shouldn't have resulted in a key handover, but hey - Matt was the film director, not me!

A quick personal thanks to Neil (dattoman) for spending some time this week going through this thread with me and manually fixing all the broken photos that were lingering around from when Photobucket spat the dummy. A bit of a tedious process, but it's all done and every post is now back to normal. I have a lot of history in here from the last 25 years with my Torana (scary!) with awesome memories from a lot of the photos - thanks again legend!

That's awesome Brett. I did the same with my build thread a few months ago and am much happier for it.

Tedious is the right word for it.

For the past couple of months, trusty old blue was evicted from the garage and moved out onto the lawn (exactly the same as the scene from Two Hands!), so that I could jack hammer up my old garage floor and lay a new slab (well part of it, it's still not finished) - but it's progressing along really well. The mancave continues to evolve (this is also my working from home office 4 days per week).

Anyway, on the weekend, I was finally able to bring the Torana back inside again and out of the weather (what doesn't kill 'em, makes 'em stronger!).

Sensational mate. I'm sure it's delighted with its new home.

Looks like a good space, too! Perhaps I should join you for a beer there soon.

Heath you're welcome for a beer anytime at all! Long-term, I visualise cold beer on tap at my main bar - but in the interim, there's plenty of cold beer in the fridge, haha!!

Great stuff Brett. You must have discipline to focus on bread winning with the source of passion in plain sight.

Hi Brett,

any chance of taking some pictures of your springs and mounting positions on your carby.

I'm struggling to get my throttle cable to return all the way.

Like you, I don't want to replace the bracket if possible.

Regards Mando.

Absolutely Mando - here's a photo of my home-made (hacked together/el cheapo) throttle cable bracket with twin return springs...

I can remember running the spring opposite on a car years ago.

Instead of pulling back from the bottom, I had it pulling forward from the top.

Managed to find an easier spot to fit the spring that way, and got the right resistance on the pedal.

Cheers

Rob

^ If you do one of each it can help resolve sticky throttle issues as it reduces side loading
