I don't think I've actually mentioned it yet in this thread, but back at Easternats a couple of years ago, I pulled a big top gear burnout down the front straight. Loved it, lots of smoke, big smiles all round.. BUT.... I then did a cool down lap around the track, and suddenly noticed low oil pressure. After the event, I did a full oil and filter change, but the oil pressure has still remained lower than usual ever since.
I described everything to my engine builder, and he is certain the engine detonated and hammered the conrod bearings ('crank wiping' he called it). I've still happily been driving the car since, with no bad signs or rattles or noises, but just lower than usual oil pressure...
For the last year or so, everyone has been telling my to check my Autometer electric gauge and sender, in case it's gone out of whack. So this weekend just gone, my mate Mish came over with a mechanical gauge and plumbed it up for me. We fired the beast up, and at first, things looked promising... the mechanical was showing up around 65 PSI... electrical still showing around 50PSI.....
We ran the engine and got it warm..... mech was showing 30-50PSI depending on revs, electrical showing 25-40PSI.
Got it hot, mech dropped to around 10PSI at idle, electric was 0 - 5PSI as usual.
So the test has shown the electrical gauge does read a little bit lower than a mechanical gauge, but not by much, and at least it's consistent....
With a high volume oil pump, we both agreed these readings are definitely still way too low.... so unfortunately it's still all pointing at bearings... it's nice to finally confirm it though.
I am absolutely itching to get the engine out, replace bearings, replace cam, replace oil pump, and look at the compression ratio.... money is the only show-stopper!!!

No issues with emissions/ride height/noise/drop tank? etc. You did well if that was the best he could come up with, nice one.

Baillie - I just fitted higher springs again, not much else I could do. Mine is engineered with the Chev, definitely worth doing I reckon. Very glad I did mine. Now all the numbers match and she's legal...

Thanks very much Briana, was great to meet you on Sunday too! Yeah my colour is funny, it can look quite bland and boring when it's wet and miserable, but when the sun hits it in nice light, the metallic shows and looks great through the clear coats. Sometimes I wish I went for a brighter colour, but having said that, I still love the metallic blue.
Cheers for the comments too hawk, you should have come up and said g'day mate!
I got a different perspective of my car on Sunday.. I had to drive my hatchback to the show, so Deb drove LXCHEV for me, and I got to follow it and cruise side by side for a while. Didn't realise how tough it actually sounded, it has a different note outside the car compared to when I'm driving it. I spent ages on Saturday detailing the car inside and out, polishing the body and the Convo's up. Now it'll just sit there and get dirty again, LOL!

I have finally ditched my electric fuel pump, and fitted up the new Holley HP billet mechanical. So far so good, but I haven't had a chance to test it much yet really, only cruising. I'm still planning to sell the BG carb, and downsize to a 750... once I do that, then I'll make up a nice looking fuel rail and the new fuel system will be finished. It looks a bit daggy at the moment with the main fuel line, but that's because it's only temporary.

RE: the Noise... Its hard to drive a manual next to LXCHEV, cos you can't hear your own car at all! You have to drive it off the revs on the Tacho! LOL. Was sweet on that last Xmas light cruise, in between you and Brett in his SV8... Was nuts when you both gave it a stab!
