Ok I have a small dilemma. As some of you would have noticed, I'm selling off my 2nd set of rear Convo's in the For Sale area (the 8.5's with 275/50x15 MT ET Street Radials).
The 10's that are still on the car, have my street tyres fitted (265/50x15's).
Ever since I've owned the 10's though, I've never really liked the look of the sidewalls - the 265's don't have any bulge. 10" rims really need a 275 or better yet a 295. Because my car is low though, I would never fit them (they scrub already).
I'm wondering if I should re-fit the 8.5's with 265 street tyres, and sell off the 10's with the 275 drag tyres.
The 10's do look great as far as extra dish goes, and also the fact they are single stud pattern, not multi-fit like the 8.5's. But the tyre bulge just isn't happening.
What do you guys think looks better???? I am torn!
i have a set of 10 inch conv's on the rear of mine with 30mm adaptors from lh to hq ,fit perfect, so i think my convo's would fit your's but not as much dish or maybe someone else has for sale a set my 9" must be shorter than yours mine are multi fit thanks john tori wheels 005.jpg 1.3MB 31 downloads tori wheels 005.jpg 1.3MB 31 downloads tori wheels 001.jpg 1.33MB 23 downloads tori wheels 008.jpg 1.26MB 27 downloads

Your 10's don't have much dish on the outside, so they must have a lot more rear back space than mine... which explains why they sit so well with the 30mm adapters. Your diff could still be standard length I reckon. My 10's have 5" rear-space, and 5" outside dish... yours must be 6.5" rear-space, and therefore 3.5" outside dish. The difference between our 10's is the 1.5" which is about 38mm.
Anyway, nice looking ride you have there!
By the way, I did end up selling my 8.5's, and I'm happy I kept the 10's. As Heath once said, DISH IS KING

The 383 finally let go! After putting up with the lower oil pressure for 2 years (since my Easternats incident), my luck has ended. I was driving to work on Friday, mild acceleration in first gear, about to change to second, when BANG!!! It sounded like half the engine shattered apart inside. I backed off instantly and pulled it up on the side of the road. It was still running (barely), like at 400rpm as I turned it off. Strong oil smell, and a small amount of smoke.
Anyway, no external damage, no rods punched through the block, no oil leaks or anything cool like that.
I flat towed it home and she's now parked up awaiting an autopsy. I cranked it over for a second or two just for interests sake, and there's definitely some fairly decent bottom end grumbling going on. But at least it hasn't seized up.
I'm keen as to rip it apart and find out what happened! Who wants to take a guess?
At least now I can finally do the freshen up I've been wanting to do for a long time. My old cam will most likely be going back in (smaller hydraulic) to replace the solid, and a smaller carby too. Objective: cruiser. I don't really care about chasing 1/4 mile times or anything any more. Would rather get as much cruising in as possible with our little boy.
From memory, I think I fitted the Chev around 2002, and it's been apart once in that time when I changed the combo to forged pistons and solid cam. It's had a fair workout over the years, with a lot of km's put on the clock, so I'm not too sad! LOL.
She'll be back....... but I'm in no hurry. Need to do some fundraising first :(

I hate that sound so much! but if you look at the bright side you have a really good excuse for a "Rebuild" which you could also do with your son so is kind of a win win (sort of )

Tiny, I replaced the original KB Hypers a few years ago, with SRP forgies.
I really don't know what to expect when I tear it down... things could be very interesting!
It's funny - a bit of carnage makes you feel manly! I can blow stuff up good!

Depending on how bad, you might get away with sleeving the block to save it if it's a good/rare block!
Still sounds like a piston has let go... might have pulled the gudgeon out of it? (Have seen that happen more than full piston disintegration)
Hope it's not too costly mate... Could be time for an import sharrifoff? (spelling!?) the dollar is really good!
How about a Blue Litre8.... Hmmmmmm KB Bigblock... "LXBBCHEV" - does have a nice ring to it
Best of luck with it mate!

When are you going to pull the motor out and down?
I'll chat with Justin and see what he reckons might have happened. I could get him to come over and check it out when it's done and see what he reckons.
If its a looooooong term job, he could do it as a side project for you and just chip away at it over time.

I am ITCHING to rip the engine out, but just don't have time... hopefully within the next month after I get my hatchback on the road again, and a few other jobs ticked off.
If it's terminal, ie. damaged block and/or crank damage and/or broken pistons/rods whatever.... I think I will be going down the path of a crate engine, rather than fixing this up.. I might be able to sell off my top end to fundraise ... but who knows.
I'll let you know when it happens Matty if we need to get Justin over... that'd be cool.
And Tiny - loving the idea of a blue LITRE8, LOL.

Best of luck with it, And i think your plans for a crate engine are the most cost effective these days!
Cheers mate

Hard to argue with that. I recall Bob Kotmel saying, in Streetmachine, that you can't buy the parts in Aust for the price that you can import a good crate engine for! That would ring true with the way the dollar currently is.
You were close Tiny: Shafiroff. Here's a good example.....

Looking forward to seeing how it all pans out.

Of course... I reckon bout $25K installed... and hang the hell on!
*sigh*... too many options... but honestly.. why would you build these days!

You know the answer to that, and its not financially-driven. Why build a car when you can buy one ready-made cheaper...?but honestly.. why would you build these days!

I must admit, When i had a loo kat those engines, the one thing i would *NOT* like to use in them is the eagle crank, but that's ONLY my PERSONAL opinion! the rest of it looked reasonable with quality, and honestly... who can argue with the power output for the dollars invested!
Unfortunately the costs to build an engine with the gear and machine work here in $AU would far eclipse ( Maybe even double?) the cost to import and fit the crate version.
If you're after the personal satisfaction of having done it yourself, then sure.. go ahead and build it, but if you're chasing power on a budget then my opinion is still an import from a REPUTABLE builder.
Cheers!
