I just fitted the HX stubs and discs...I also wound the tie rod ends in to their max...problem is the wheels still point outwards..?? Appears there is no more thread..do I knock a bit off the end of one tie rod to get the tie rod in futher?..Never seen this one before..in hindsight that means I lose the nut head on the rod...Anyone???

Wonder if there are different length tie rods?....If they were shorter the problem would go away?..Don't know..it's what NOS fitted to it.

Maybe try measuring the tie rod end length on NO1 and compare with those on number 2?

That does sound odd, perhaps the rack has been recond with new tie rods at some stage that are longer?

Then the UC I took it out off would have thrown up a problem surely?

hi, did you use the torana tie rod conecting arms or the hx ones.

we used torana ones on our race cars which had no modification needed.

worked fine with one rack and we had to cut the rack ends down a bit on another we will use as a spare.

Meth..no idea...the car came with new tie rods..will need to check tomorrow what length they are..guessing they are the wrong ones..Torana ones on N0.1 fitted fine..if I cut the rack ends..I am in the same boat...not enough thread to wind them on further..thought of that.

Well I wound the lock nuts in as far as they would go..knocked 10mm off both ends of the arms on the rack and re fitted the tie rods. I reckon I have 2mm toe in at best.. The arms look new so I am guessing the rack has been recoed recently...still weird but think I have enough now to get my 2mm toe out settings....just.

The question is still why? Has this rack been reconditioned using rods from something else?

Possibly...or there is only one size in the reco arms available and they expect the workshops to cut them down to fit.

Steering Rack ends

Just looked at those and I immediately thought they look way too long and the groove for the boot is way too close to the ball which means
if you full locked the steering I'm sure you would turn the boot in on itself.
They musnt be exact replicas but may still do the job with a few mods & considerations.

I went out measured my old LX rack and the distance from the ball to the boot groove is about 75mm but more importantly
the distance from the ball to the begining of the thread is about 210mm. I couldnt measure it to the end as I still had a tie rod on.
