Any bolt supplier should be able to source them for you anywhere,
They would be grade 316 Stainless steel collared eye bolts ( not eye NUTS.. be careful!!)

The best thing with 316 stainless steel is the harder you pull on it, as it begins to deform it gets HARDER... so even if you bend it.. it's unlikely to break ( up to a certain point of course, that no towing action should ever reach!!)

I just found this information from one of our suppliers:
You guys are looking at the M10 eye nut (at the bottom of the page) so shows a WLL of 400Kgs ( with a 5:1 safety factor - so a theoretical limit of 2Tonne).

Cheers

I think the standard bolt is 3/8", or 9.525mm. The 10mm eye bolt fitted nicely.

Cheers, H

As per Welby, do both sides. Then source some cable/chain with suitable rating to hook up between in an emergency.

Then when you need to pull you're not crabbing the car. It is possible to twist the body only pulling on one side.

Grant..

I believe those stats are for when the eyebolt is used in the proper way ie. lifting from the top, not sure how it is effected by side load but nevertheless im sure it wont break under normal towing conditions :).

Your correct Rob, Those stats are pure tension, Not side loading at all.

As i mentioned though, The good thing with 316 S/S is it work hardens! So it gets harder.. TILL it reaches a brittle point and finally breaks!

Which will be way outside our use :)

Cheers! :spoton:

Looks good HRV74 - yep, pretty much the same as what I fitted. (I just grabbed mine from the local bolt bloke).

Good point above about running two, and setting up a chain for a central pulling point. That would be good. Mine is there purely for emergencies / short distance towing... but still having two would be better.

Tiny, you're full of useful info mate :)

I'd do what LX Chev has done

But I'd do it front and rear in 2 places
Then if the unthinkable happens you have 4 points to hold the car down with that are strong enough

Bit like the red ones on this thing

yeh i prefer this type as you might get an everyday tow driver with a big tow hook and damages your front spoiler

If only front spoilers had a quick release function! :)

The more you do it....the faster you get. Shame about the inevitable paint chips though!
I can remove mine in under 3 mins.

Gotta copy some of the Jap Guys with front lips that just clip on and off, awesome! At Hanging Rock there was an RA28 circuit car that had to kinda drive through a ditch to get the car where he wanted to show it off, so he just jumped out and 30sec later he was back in the car - fibreglass spoiler thing in his mate's hand - ready to reverse into place :)

Toranas go on tilt trays backwards
Everyone knows that
You need the same hooks x 2 on the back

mine wont go on backwards.

theres a nice big tank there, that says dont pull me up backwards :).and i would still guess id have to take the front spollier off.

i have bugger all departure, entrance angle on the front.

i assume,a non spoilered,non droptanked car,will leave u with plenty of options.

Not knowing how the spoilers fit... but would a couple of these work?

http://www.revolutio....php?PCID=10418

Some easily removable Dzus fasteners... 1/4 turn with a flat blade screwie ( or the Dzus tool!) and the fasteners drop out and Viola! removed!!

Depends on your wheel/tyre size and ground clearance
And what sort of gorilla you have for a towie

This managed OK on a tilt

I went and got my eye hooks today and am very happy. For 4 of the 2ton stainless ones with nylock nuts for $40.
Easily installed and I had some holes in the rear chassis where the tow bar was and i put 2 in the rear too.

Hopefully i wont ever have to use them.

Evan.

2 hooks now in place, thanks guys! Hopefully I can keep all 8 rods in the engine over the weekend, and I won't need to use them.

As for the tow truck thing, I must have scored good operators. Car has gone forwards on a couple of occasions, and backwards once. Spoiler only came really close to hitting once (that was with 35 series tyres, the new 40's help). Car has a drop tank - when the car was pulled up backwards, I think he used the cutouts in the rails, on the outside of the tank. Should have paid more attention, cause now I don't know how he did it myself.

Cheers, H

Only just got this reply lol. I didn't mean that, I just meant I thought you were saying you put an M10 bolt into a bar iron with an imperial thread. Unless you drill it out and put a nut on the other side or something

Anyway, I machined up some tow hooks for the blue car, just used some steel plate, I'll post some photos up when I install them. Will be two M8 bolts on each
