guess where it is again?

i,m waiting for the new carbys to arrive i,m very excited about them, and thank you for identifying that mine were 1972 model carbs.
bathurst72 sold me the carbs,he is very knowledgable and great bloke, and has some very nice toys, that i will keep to myself, hopefully one day he will share them with us all.

the reason the xu1 is back there is that,i,ve decided to paint the monaro myself ,as i don,t trust the car going anywhere, the tags are worth to much to go missing,as the vin number is currently the earliest pagewood build GTS monaro, its warrick yellow, black trim,307 power glide.

the slowest rebuild ever, been having to much fun doing other shit.

undercoated whole car again and blocked back for the 4th time and now happy with all areas, painted dash and boot a black satin, that we made by eye at paint shop, turned out real good, start colour soon.

eager eye will see no hump in floor for big diff, being body 20 its one of the first and the 307powerglide had a banjo lsd same a brougham, then later they all had 10 bolt fitted.

G'day Craig.

A couple of pages back there was discussion about the self locating bathurst sprintmaster wheels and a photograph of the internal ID markings. Earlier this year I purchased a brand new still in box set of these wheels with exact same markings and part number shown. These wheels have the self locating entry with the tapered seat nuts and locating shank. They arrived in pairs, still sealed in their original period plain brown boxes and had a clear glad wrap type film applied to the outer surface of each rim. I bought them from a guy on ebay for 960 bucks delivered. Obviously he did not know what he had........... Neither did I until a knowledgable friend checked them out for me, however I was still not absolutely certain. Now I am!

Before fitting them to my generic 10/73 2 door LJ I emailed all the torana clubs I could find offering them to any members who wanted them for a genuine bathurst car (in exchange for a generic set of sprintmasters and a small cash exchange) and got no replies at all. I assumed that nobody thought I was serious or was just full of it. Anyway, they are no longer new in the boxes as I fitted them to my car just weeks before registering it in October this year. I tried to do the right thing............... Such is life.

hey daryl,

i remember about 12 years ago when i got this monaro,i was almost fooled that a 307 had been put into a 6 cylinder body,as people always said ,all hk v8 gts monaro,s had the big diff, then more started to suface, and the tell tale was the speedo hole in firewall,i was releived once the facts were correct.

and you know i luuv your inca gold beauty.Posted Image

i,m on chrissy holidays ,so i,m keen to paint, only this weather is crazy at the moment.Posted Image

hey craig thats what everyone thought mate its only the 327 or 307 4 speed that come with factory ten bolt and the 307 powerglide cars can be either your right the speedo hole in the firewall is what gives it away im sure your car will look sweet m8 when its painted

My uncle bought a brand new silver mink HK 307 Brougham when he retired so he and the wife could do a round Australia trip with a dirty great caravan in tow . He ordered it with a ten bolt diff . The car was 7 years old when my brother and I got the job to replace its leaking hat gasket .

Are you guys certain dealer 865 is Metro Motors at the time this car was sold? I've been told at that time it was allocated to a NSW dealer. I'll ask some more and get back.

You are right from my information, dealer 865 was Boyden's NSW, it only reverted to Metro Motors about 1974 or something.
Please also consider that this dealer sold more than the whole Bathurst 73 XU-1 model allocation for WA!
( Which at present count is 17.)
Also consider that this is a Brisbane XU-1 and that due to transport costs no Brisbane XU-1's found so far were ever sold in WA.

I have made this same mistake myself previously but it has conclusively been proved not to be Metro Motors.

I have a WA Police Bathurst spec XU-1 project myself, and yes WA did use LC GTR's as Police cars, but by the time the LJ's they seemed to have just used normal XU-1's, My police XU-1 was just one of at least 4 that this branch had, both LC and LJ.

I have noticed that NSW police GTR's seemed to share the same month of production ( April I think ) I was also told by a guy who worked briefly with Holdens assembly in NSW that his job was to remove GTR engines and intsall XU-1 engines as a special order for police cars there.

Hope we find more Police XU-1's

Mike from WA

hi,

i think i,ve only ever seen one hk brougham with a ten bolt, that would be a sought after car these days being that colour, and having a big diff.

anyway i,ve had a bit of a go and got 7 coats of acrylic on the shell, and 4 on guards and doors, which will need backing up,pritty happy, only a few small bugs to piss you off.still have to do a bit off prep on bonnet, boot, front stone tray, and wipper grills, off to a good start all is going down sweet, bit peely but nothing a good cut back won,t fix later.

Craig , you are right- any Brougham surviving today with a 10 bolt would be very desirable to own .

Earlier this year my brother met a bloke with an unsual HT wagon . It was ordered with -

308 engine
4 speed saginaw
bucket seats
console and matching shifter
10 bolt diff .

He has the paperwork for this unsual wagon .

Speaking of HK Monaros , the one you are painting will be a ripper when it is finished .

I have a soft spot for them as my first car was an Ermine white with black interior

307
powerglide
10 bolt

GTS Monaro

Christ I had some fun car . According to the speedo I could hold it in low to 80 MPH .
The 10 bolt was not the original ratio because someone in their wisdom had changed it to a 3.55 .

How the poor old powerglide held together I will never know .

My brother has a HK GTS Monaro that was originally bright blue metallic with Jacana blue interior-
186 , 4speed, standard banjo .

This car now has - 327 engine
4 speed Saginaw
violet tailshaft
3.36 10 BOLT
4 leaf springs [ these are hard to find ]

Car is currently in the paint shop.
My brother has chosen a solid blue instead of the factory one .
The interior is still Jacana blue sourced from Winner Products in S.Australia .

If I twist my brothers arm hard enough I may be able to post some pictures . I can only try .

They arrived complete with original wheel nuts and caps packaged in the boxes with them Craig. Plain brown boxes (2 wheels to a box) with the clear film on each rim with a slice of cardboard between them for protection. I have never seen this type of cap before in my life....... Plain chrome with a plastic sticker (CSA and a red slash underneath) applied to the surface of the cap. These are the only pic's I now have. Lost the others of the external boxing in a computer crash a few months ago. They had Mullins Wheels labels applied over the top of the original labels but I could not successfully peel one to see what was underneath unfortunately. Numerous people have now confirmed they are the real deal. I am amazed nobody wanted them!!!

thanks yoda for the pics,

beeing as new is a great find, not sure about the centre caps, think someone got the proper globe plain centres,

the wheel nuts are a funny looking arrangment ,but work very well.

hey daryl,

best to control youself with bugs, and leave them till it dries ,which isn,t long, then remove bug and the legs or feet are left to rub out,i,m going to leave for a while till i block back ,as the shine is better the harder the paint is,and the longer the gloss will last before polishing again.

we,ll just finished for now,

that was 3 weeks christmas holidays, many 10 hour days and up till 11pm last night taping some of the lines, then heaps more time today taping, and covering up the yellow, has turned out real good,it would want to of,as the body work took for ever.

its not very shiny yet as its all blocked back ,but should come up sweet after a buff, its an odd colour changes from very light to a deep yellow,in the different light,i,m going to build a stocker, which its standard colour is warrick yellow, black trim,307,powerglide.but it crossed my mind many times to do it black, and modify it.
