Dad had a chev one on the monaro, but has now gone to the CV8-R black one as he is going a orange/black theme with the car.
I didnt think the chev badge looked too bad.

But why would he changed the tail lights from the monaro style to VX ones! Front end looks better though.

Here comes hurt feelings....

Massive tacho with an equally massive shift light? Why so big ? Vision impaired perhaps?

Torries with flares that are not filled right out with the wheels.

Chevrolet badged holdens.

Utes with truck mudflaps and bullhorn sticker on the back.

Toranas with alloy dash and a mass of round gauges put in.

Vr commies with VT clubby spoilers.

Painted bumpers on a black torrie.

Well I must say the Chev badged Holdens topic has provided me with an easy 500 word discussion on the effects of globalisation on the automotive industry. So they are good for something i.e. helping me with uni assignments :spoton:

Agree with the above, particularly the flares point. It looks stupid with stock width etc under a flare, if you aren't filling the gaurds why flare them?!

Late model interiors in old cars period, I have seen a few of these in various early Holdens/Toranas. Particularly with the standard crappy plastic auto shifter and surround, yuck!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Gen 3 & Gen 4 V8s are NOT Chevrolet engines, they are manufactured by a division of GM called GM-Powertrain. I know it's nit-picking but that's how it is. Ever since 1990, all GM engines come from this one company, unlike the days of the past, where Chevrolet made their own engines as did Pontiac, Buick & Cadillac etc.

As a matter of fact there more Holdens in the world which use these V8s than there are Chevs. AFAIK the only Chev cars to have Gen 3 or Gen 4 V8s fitted are Corvettes & the various export models sold in the Middle East & South Africa (Luminas & Caprices etc.). All of these export Chevs are really Holdens, built in Australia anyway !!

The Pontaic GTO (2004 onwards) has a Gen 4 V8, as does the current Pontiac G8 & both these are built in Australia (using V8s imported from GM-Powertrain in the States). Do you think for one minute that any Yank thinks that these cars have Chev engines in them ?

The photos of the various small sh#tboxes in the posts above are closer to the truth. In the U.S.A., Canada & most of Europe & Asia, the name Chevrolet is only known as the brand of little economy cars like Barinas etc. Even the Impala in the U.S.A. is only a FWD car & the equivalent of a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord.

In Australia, we know Chevrolet as the builder big old Yank tanks & also of the brilliant SBC & BBC engines, but over the last few decades they have developed into an economy brand. In the U.S.A. ALL Chevrolet passenger cars (except the Corvette) are FWD. The Corvette is virtually marketed as a seperate brand to differentiate it from the normal (lesser) Chevs.

The fact is, that the Holden Commodore (& to a lesser extent, the Ffford Falcon) are amongst the best passenger cars in the world at the present time, especially at the price. Have a look at the 2 Pommy car shows on TV (Top Gear & 5th Gear) to see what the rest of the world thinks about our cars.

Every time I hear a poster refer to a Commodore as a 'dunnydoor' I really get the sh#ts. We should be proud of the Holden brand & its Lion emblem & stop putting Chev Bowtie badges in place of the original Holden badge.

On the other hand if you have an older Holden (Monaro, Torana or Kingswood etc.) with a proper Chev V8 in it, disregard all of the above.

That's my rant for the week, thank you for listening.

Dr Terry

this is super interesting, everyone i seem to tell this to tells me to f off. is there any supporting documentation that i can read?

^ sure is supporting doco mate. Once my assignment is marked I will post my analysis of this exact topic. In the meantime have a look at www.gmpowertrain.com there is brief history and overview on their website.

You wont find much that says "GM has not produced a Chev engine since xxxx. All the engines produced since xxxx are GM Powertrain". You need to read between the lines and look at the dates that GM consolidated its operations. Wiki is a good source as well but wiki being wiki its hard to back up the data as being gospel.

At the end of the day you will have a hard time trying to convince people anyway. If they have made up their mind they wont listen to reason and you will just end up flogging a dead horse. Having knowledge is one thing, trying to change the world with that knowledge is another thing entirely :-)

your plucking at straws
gm may be the enity of it all but it's still a division of chev....in a sense
who really cares anyway?
it's a v8 and we get to enjoy it
are you also saying any 304 produced after 1988 is not a holden motor?
as they did the same thing back in the day
