Hey guys,
I want to put one of those rear window brake lights in my car like the later model cars have,
just for a bit more visibility and slightly decrease the chance of being run up the ass.
Has any one got one? What type is it?

Thanks Blake

oh ok cool, i was having a look on hella's website before and im pretty sure they have
one just like it. Think it was a little squarer tho.
Did u have to modify it at all to sit flush with the window?

Thanks Blake

No modifications, just screw it in.

Yeah, that looks like the one to go for!

Wonder what is available for a hatchback, that wouldnt look to silly... Maybe a tiny little strip of L.E.D's to sit at the base of the rear glass?

That true blue torana had a strip of LEDs on the rear sill, that would be an option too.

Ok, ill have a look and see if i can find one somewhere.
Im sure you could find one to fit a hatchback, have a look on hella's online catalogue.
I think these are worth getting, rather spend 30 bucks or so to reduce the chance of someone
running up my ass and causing alot more $$ worth of damage.

Thanks Blake

I had to fit one to my hatch as the date of import here overrides the date of manufacture and changes the rules

There are plenty available but most of them are huge and really restrict your vision. The one I ended up using is a single horizontal row of LEDs (it also has one on the front so you know its on), still annoying but at least you can see past it.

A bit rough but try this:

it doesn't conform perfectly to the curve of the window so I added a couple of extra bits of foam double-sided tape (pity it wasn't the same colour!)

That looks like the same one I used, but I had it mounted into my parcel shelf tray.
I'll try to get a pic up soon.

I usually tear these out of cars when i get them.

But you all have good points, perhaps i should scratch around and put some back in....

Cheers.

Mine is just a generic version from Bursons - Dad was a tad paranoid about me getting hit up the arse as a P plater with a fresh paint job - no idea on cost as that was in '93

I had this one in my Hatch,

Unfortunately it is fully inside the car and no shroud, so it throws a heap of light inside the car which makes it hard to see out the back when you have your foot on the brake, more an issue when reversing in the dark.
This is also made worse with the louvre on as it reflects more light down :(

I changed it recently for the newer shrouded type that you can get from Bursons and AutoBarn, this is better for the amount of light in the car, but, yes a but! the light can not be adjusted properly to suit the window angle, its pointing up slightly & the shroud body is hanging down and looks like sh#t from inside.

I have been keeping an eye out for what is on late model Hatch type cars and think their may be a solution?

Some Saab Hatches have one that sits on top of the gate, has a not too unsightly profile, a similar angle and will not throw any light into the car.

Bummer is it might need to be mounted by drilling, mounting & cable holes, i still need to find out the exact model its from and get one to see how it fits & looks.
