The issues with the bushes and pins and gears can be quite complex and should really be considered over a long cold one.
Either way, as you are in a hurry, i'll break it down to the shortest possible assistance.
The left side,
Is opposite the right side.
Go to it, best of luck.

SO maybe a different rack is an option
Having said that... rego said Tinkers car had a rack issue
They didn't want to pass it till I got a letter from Holden stating the rack was within tolerance
This was direct from the head rego tech officer himself (used to be a friend of mine before he retired)
I took it to another rego station and got it passed no dramas
And thats after they jacked it up and shook the wheels off it
Mackay does a rebuild kit for the racks but it doesn't come with the LHS thingy
SO... if they won't pass it... get another rack

Having said that the left side can be worn 2 ways,
1. where the steering rod moves left and right without the pinion or rack moving(and would be similar to the effects of a worn tie rod gives) which requires the drilling out on the pin, and retightening to specs with a new hole drilled for the locking pin (assuming the ball end or the nylon cup behind it isnt worn out).
2.where the shaft moves up and down in the housing which means its the main inner bush and will require removal of the rack bar from the housing to refit a new one. Also requires removal of steering rod like first case.
Which situation is yours? and do you have LH or LX rack?

Yes could also have ment the rack mount bush is worn too, but as he mentioned something about drilling out a pin I assumed it was the internals of the rack.
