hi all.
well i want to check and see if the pipes that drain water from the plenum? chamber are blocked up coz water leaks in on the passenger floor when it rains hard.
just want to know...do i have to take off the scuttle panel to do this?
if so how do i do it?
if not how do i clear out the pipe?
cheers

Rust is the big problem under there. you can remove them from inside the car to clean them out. but its not easy to do.

You can unplug the drain pipe from the plenum, but it is a mongrel of a job. Theoretically, they should pull off, but seldom they do!
Once you get them off, you can feel up the hole with your finger for any debris.
If you find some, then i suggest you remove the wiper panel for a clean out.
To remove it, first remove the wiper arms, then undo all the screws in the engine bay. Usually these are sealed, so you need to break the seal. Lifting it gently from the enginebay side will do the trick.
Be carefull not to lift it too high, as it wont clear the wiper motor.

Once the seal is broken, lift the outside corners [in engine bay], then slide a finger up toward the windscreen. All you are trying to do at this stage is lift the tabs out. [tabs go along just forward of the screen, or along the top edge of the scuttle panel.
Usually, once the outside 2 tabs 'pop', you can slide the finger along & the rest will follow.

If you put a bucket under the drain pipes, you can flush the plenum chamber out.
Dont forget to poke the hose in the drain pipes also.
Hope that helps.

I have stainless mesh glued up under the cowel panel vent slots. Keeps leaves and crap out and looks a treat too.
I would post a pic but the missus just cleaned up and I can't find the camera.

Are you talking to me or LC?
Yeah, I repaired a bit of rust in mine under there when I was building it, that's why I put the mesh in.
I was lucky as it was only minor, so I could do it from under the dash inside with a die grinder, a little bit of sheet steel and a mig.

was telling LC or who ever wanted to listen Posted Image mate you should see mine, the last owner glued it in with some heavy duty shit i couldnt even get the screws out so i gave it a little jiggle and the whole bloody lot came out now i have 1 massive hole to repair as well as refit the heat box thingo, im gonna do a custom job on that part of the plenuim as the little piece that sticks up in to the it is only about 25mm high so if you hook it around a corner the water is going to still get up over it and inside the car, i will be raising mine up to about 60mm and the mesh under the vets you talk about is a perfect idea ( IDEA HAS NOW BEEN STOLEN Posted Image )
