Hi all

Yours truly was very pleased to be given the Encouragement Award for my Persian Sand 4dr Grandpa-spec 202 column auto LX. I would have spoken up earlier when the award was first mentioned in this thread but I have been away from the computer.

Anyway, the Encouragement award is a great idea because, although it's no show stopper, I am proud of my car and this award proves that all of us have a chance, as long as you get in and have a go. Thanks very much, Tiny. Sorry to make it so hard - I'll leave the daggy grey seat cover off the driver's seat next year so that you can see what's under it which ought to make it easier! :spoton:

My sincerest thanks also go to the Hunter Valley Torana Club, the GMH-Torana forum and all the volunteers who put effort into making this a great event. I'll definitely be back again next year.

Congrats Zook -
As a previous recipient of the Encouragement Award I know exactly how you feel, which is why I suggested a few years ago that the forum sponsor that particular award, and my good mate sstorana was happy to accept our offer.
Hope you liked the car care kit. I originally added that the first year we sponsored as it it something that can definitely be used - a voucher or somesuch may just never see the light of day. Thanks to Tiny for sourcing it this year.

To all daily drivers and anyone who thinks their car is not worthy - if it says Torana, be in Newcastle, Sept 2010.

Grant..

G'day Grant

Thanks for the words of support. I'm still pumped with this award and yes the car care kit will be very handy, good idea, cheers! I love my car because it was a daily driver for 32 years (although I've semi retired it now - it deserves it!), and apart from the wheels, is an unmodified example of what you would drive off the dealer's floor in 1976.

there is hope for my heap

:) Only if you have gold V5s...I think they may have swayed the vote :dontknow:

Could one of the mods insert it as a photo into this post properly please?

You know what did it for me Zook...

It's a spitting image of my First car... the first love if my life, My grandad's Torana.
He handed me the keys when i turned 16 and he held on to the car for years so that he COULD give it to me.

I put that poor thing through hell and high water ( and i do mean high water!!) and it never ceased to take the thrashing i gave it.
It saved my life on numer ous occasions when my bravado outweighed my skill, and it also rarely left me stranded.

I had always had big plans to keep it and do it up.. but as life moves on, and i had the Monaro it unfortunately had to go.

But it was honestly similar to yours...
Persian Sand, "big block" 202, Extractors and ADM webber.... Baby Cam and that was about it.. I never did get around to putting the mags on it i wanted..but that's life!

When i saw your car it really reminded me of how much i would have loved to have won SOMETHING at a show.. but heck.. it was only a stocker! And so i never have won anything, but yours along with a really cool absinth yellow LX ( i think??) with jellybeam mags were what took my eye as prime examples of "giving it a go".

There you go!!

Glad you liked the car care kit, it was grant's Idea and the forum as a whole is proud to sponsor and support the show as much as we possibly can.

Cheers!

Is there a results page on the Toranafest website? It would be nice to see a picture of each car that given and award.

It caught my eye too and I had to have a closer look. The big thick stripe sets it off well and although I am not fan of flared UC's, this one seems to pull it off.

Another UC I was impressed with was Grahams (UCA350) and of course Pauls (Studrico) hatch is just drool worthy. Makes me glad I left my outclassed shitter at home !! Next year though it will be up to a more Torana Fest type standard i.e all panels the same colour !!

Thanks Big T.
Took me a lot of time and thought so as not to create a UC copy of an A9X,which would have looked lousy.
Appreciate the positive comments mate.
