I am trying to work out when they painted it from the original White to Silver.
I do know that it was restored to the original colour scheme in 2003.
cheers

I have a Sports Car World from early 1984 that features a drive test on the GTR-X, along with photos, done by Peter Robinson. He actually drove it (along with some other of Holden's cars) in late 1983 as part of the 35th anniversary of the 48-215. It is silver with the UC wheels in the article. I get the impression that it was painted silver just prior to this 35th anniversary celebration. When I get home, I'll try and scan the article and post it.

That is one gorgeous car, even by todays design standards.
Personally it doesn't look like a Holden to me, it lacks muscle and more like something Japanese or from the UK.
I've always seen it as just one of those 'futuristic' prototypes that many car manufacturers did back in the 60's, back when they thought beyond year 2000 we'd all be wearing Ace Frehley type space suits and travelling to work via big transparent tubes.
I think if they thought it would sell it would've been put into production?

If you have a look at this thread there is an article from October 1978 that has it in silver. It gives the impression, although a bit unclear, that it must have been painted around then.

Thanks Robj
I have that Modern Motor mag here so I will dig it up and have a read.
it's definately looking like it was painted Silver around 1977/1978. It stands to reason that it was around this time as the UC SL/E was being released and it would have been the first time the alloys would have been seen on a Holden..

There are actually 2 cars.
The white one is the original (as in first) car and is fitted with the 186X engine.
The silver car was an updated version and is fitted with a 202 engine.
Cheers,
