Posted Image

my spare parts bin haha

Posted Image

old engine pulled out, bay prepped and painted in gloss black, turned out a bit glossier than i would have liked, should have went with satin

Posted Image

Posted Image

Engine on stand reassembled, all done by me n my cousin first motor ive fully assembled, pretty happy with it, note the headers were just on for mockup and to check clearance, ended up fitting VS HM headers with a few minor mods to make them fit

Posted Image

Posted Image

Engine in and ready to go to the exhaust shop

Posted Image

big thanks to pat at mettams in morley he did an awsome job with the exhaust, very good price too ! just went with mild steel as i might need to change setup in near future if im going to intercool it

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

decided to ditch the box/panel filter and fit stainless induction pipe and K&N pod, blower really whines its head off now

Posted Image

Posted Image

went in to the tuners made pretty good power for the mods i have, so far bloody stoked, considering i did about 90% of the work at home(im a sheety not a mechanic haha), done 8000km on it still hasnt skipped a beat, and has put plenty of commodore owners to shame and left scratching their heads haha

Posted Image

hope i havent bored you too much, enjoy :) and let me know what you think, cheers fellas

thanks for the comments guys. Yeah i just wanted something a little different, all my mates drive commodores/ricers etc. but there not really my type of car. so opted for the old look with the performance/reliability of a late model injected motor. ive had 3 torries(im only 21) and each one has taught me diffent things and how to work on cars, awesome to learn on.
im not sure on the colour name but im pretty sure its been resprayed in a factory colour, im saving my pennies now to do a respray keeping same colour but black along the bottoms of the doors/front/rear quarter n windows. yeah it breathes quite well, the cam loves full throttle haha :D the limiter is set to 6k, id like to push it further, i know the yanks are running the same cam and pushing 7k+ revs, but its still got stock pistons and its my daily atm. gen3 im up in wanneroo mate

heres the dash, the power/economy button is used to turn the lock up convertor on while doin highway runs etc.

Posted Image
few other little things, ive made a cold air intake were the battery usually sits, this is with the airbox inplace, now its just putting air straight into the pod

Posted Image

got another pic showing how fun it is to wind a 3inch pipe over the VN diff haha

By the looks of it, I'm pretty sure it is Aztec Silver (my UC is that colour) and that was a factory colour. :)

not too sure yet, i need to get it licenced first then a quick respray, so probly about 12 months off atleast, im pretty tempted to cool it instaed of paint but need to make it look a bit tidier first. Anyone know any good backyard spec blokes that can do a reasonable job (same colour) for about 2-3 grand? in perth??

Your car looks pretty good in the pics, so if it doesn't need any major body repairs, why not have a go at getting it ready for a repaint yourself? Plenty of people here on the forum have done this & i'm sure you'd find someone to apply the paint easily for 2-3k. It can get fairly expensive if you have to pay someone to do the prep work & paint it as it is very labour intensive work. Materials alone for a repaint in 2K are around the $1200-$1500 mark. I'd intercool it first, but thats just me. I'm looking at buying a Terra Charger for my EFI 5.0ltr Torana next year which has an intercooler option with water injection plate under the charger. Even just fitting a decent cooler & pipe set up on my VL Turbo made a big difference. Best of luck with your project & keep up the good work, i'll be keeping watch on this thread. Again, very well done Posted Image

cheers Matt

yeah, im thinking imight do just that, my uncles painted a few cars recently that have turned out pretty decent(both my cousins) so i might get him to give me a hand. Yeah cooled will make the biggest difference, will be a totally different car, will be able to make alot more power by upping the boost :D i know a guy that makes a carbon fibre A2A plate that he has on a VN commy running 11s on a stock bottom end, stock cam, so should go pretty well in a torrie haha :D

Awesome car!

Good on you for assembling the motor too, must make you feel pretty good when you give it a bootfull.

Can you show us some more 3/4 shots of the car? I'd like to have a gander at the look of it with those chaser rims on it.

+ 1 vote for 'cooler first and then paint it yourself later.

Cheers mate.

Function over form i guess.

It already looks fine anyways, although im sure it goes fine too.

Perhaps you will need to modify some of the bodywork to fit the cooler, and in that case i'd say you would be better off paiting it afterwards.

got the indicator calncelation sussed today, still got no horn tho, when i pres the button i can hear a relay click under the bonnet (commodore relay/fuse box) but no horn, i think i mustnt have hooked something up when i put it all back together when i sprayed the bay, few morfe little things to do then i gotta take it over the pits to find out what needs to be engineered

went down the drags last night, ran a 13.2 first run. Hit the limiter in 2nd but was still the fastest time i got on the night. was running car just as i would on the street, didnt even let tires down till later to try and get a little more traction. i reckon its got a 12 in it with a bit more practice, and i didnt even launch it, just fed on slowly in first and manuallly shifted due to p.o.s t700 box short shifting in D. Its pretty adictive but, cant wait to get down and have another go

tyres were nexen 205/50/16 on front and 245/45/16 on back, would like to maybe invest in some MTs, but pretty sure next run headlight, passenger seat and subs will all be coming out, and try get my 60' time down to sneak it into the 12s
