I always get, "Oh he ruined it by putting a sunroof in it!!!". It came from the dealer that way in 1974 and has been in the car since new.

I never understood why that attitude is so common, whether original or not - they don't leak if installed correctly! Too many pessimists I reckon, they must never drive their cars for fear something might go wrong with it...? :dontknow:

Yeah, I was the same before I got this car. Now I have it, it's great. Can drive comfortably at 140 km/h with no real wind in the cabin like you would with the window open, and lets all the heat out from those extractor heaters sitting under the floor pan. It's well done, has never leaked, and if I leave it closed at car shows, most people don't even realise it is there (it's metal and painted body colour, like they fitted on the Statesman's). I know of an L34 with a manual version of the same sunroof in it. It is also Yellow.

LX did!

Informative comment?

Here's what I know from car's that I'm familiar with in the LX Range that were very original:

LX S - No chrome around the windows, no blackouts anywhere, neat groovy double stripes down the sides.
LX SL/R - Chrome around the windows, no blackouts anywhere.
LX SL/R 5000 - No chrome around windows, blackouts around windows, on rear spoiler, and below bumper bar level with loud SL/R 5000 on the doors.

I'd be interested to know the other schemes.

Bit off topic but I love the sunroof Pat

LH 'S' has chrome gutter trim & extension, no black paint anywhere
LH 'SL' has close chrome window trim and chrome gutter trim & extension, no black paint anywhere
LH 'SL/R' has close chrome window trim and chrome gutter trim & extension, blackouts extend to bodyline PLUS stripe extensions down the guards PLUS pinstripe underneath the lot. Also has blackout on arse end and lower nosecone
LH 'SL/R 5000' has close chrome window trim and chrome gutter trim & extension, blackouts extend to bodyline PLUS stripe extensions down the guards PLUS pinstripe underneath the lot. Also has blackout on arse end

LX 'S' has chrome gutter trim & extension, no black paint anywhere
LX 'SL' has distant chrome window trim, blackouts extend to trim
LX 'SL/R' has distant chrome window trim, blackouts extend to trim
LX 'SL/R 5000' blackouts extend to bodyline, connected to cowl, bonnet, top of guards & nosecone, PLUS warpaint, no blackout on arse end!
LX 'SS' has distant chrome window trim, blackouts extend to trim, also has a blackout on the arse end

There are also details like side strips, side stripes, chrome trims at the bottom of the doors, SL/R Smiles, tail light chrome surrounds, rubbers on bumpers etc I don't wanna rag on about it all :P

What a load of shit, do it how you want lol

LX Distant chrome window trim, does it sit out there thinking if it wants to come in close like a LH?

I don't think this is correct, as the LX SL/R we painted didn't have the blackouts before we started. It was a very original cars, nobody had ever even had the door cards off!!! We put the blackouts on the tops of the doors inside the chrome trim though.

I forgot about the chrome gutter trims on the LX S. Prolly cause I stuffed mine getting em off. They will now be painted!!!

Yeah, when it comes to painting, doesn't really matter, just do what floats your boat. More on this shortly!!!! My boats certainly floating ATM.

I think you mean LH SLR/5000 or L34 right?

I think it'd look pretty average as well, because the black would be bordered around some chrome edges and not others kinda thing... depending on how you did it. It could just be like mine without the 'top' of the panels blacked out

I suppose the other thing to do is crack out the old black electricians tape and get creative to see what it looks like. Cheaper than painting it again if you don't like it! I don't think i've ever seen an LX (with the chrome trims) painted in the LH scheme so I can't comment on whether it looks good or not. Surely someone out there has done it! I've seen a Torana painted yellow with red flares and spoilers, blue bonnet scoop and to top off the overall look, green magnums!!!!! Trust me, I wouldn't go down that path, and kids, that is why you don't do drugs!!!!!

Good luck.

FFS here's an LX SL/R

Yep that is what mine looks like except the bonnet is blacked out and I notice the paint is different on the bonnet - matt as opposed to slightly glossy around the windows.

I also have matt black under the doors / lower rear quarter.

I assume the bonnet on mine was done after market and I've noticed many Toranas with glossy black bonnets.

Isn't the idea of a blacked out bonnet to be non-reflective?

Yeah a perfect satin finish looks better as well because it has a nicer contrast but I don't know how you maintain it, I just did mine in gloss because a mate gave me like 3L of gloss black he didn't need

A9Xs came with satin, LHs never had black bonnets, I'm pretty sure LX SLR 5000s came with full gloss black bonnets like mine

Well I'll be. Working on the LX doors tonight, and what's looking me up in the face? The fixing points on the lower sill to put LH chrome strips on!!!! I'll be, I knew LX's where just LH's in drag.

A Bloke up here in the "Ville has an L34 Painted in the LX SL/R 5000 paint scheme. He loves it and that's all that matters.
I reckon the barbados green in the LH paint scheme, chrome or no chrome will look fantastic especially with the rally Wheels.

Don't need chrome when you have warpaint.
