The axistr power steering rack is designed as a replacement for the factory rack. It uses the factory steering arms.

would that be in a LH / LX or UC as they are different, I have read the thread and I think from memory, and I stress I am not sure about this he tryed all three and found the UC arms suited his car with whatever stub axles he had

It was ToranaMatt69 that found UC arms were the best with his setup using a different rack ( Subaru WRX ) and possibly a different mounting position early in the power steering thread.

It is my understanding that all the factory racks have the same dimensions. The dimensions of the axistr power rack are similar to the factory rack. Therefore fitting the axistr power rack will not significantly change the bump steer that exists with the factory rack. The axistr power rack installation instructions do not specify changing the factory steering arms. Although the factory steering arms do require reaming to suit the Subaru tie rod ends.

In other words you use the same steering arms with the power rack as you would with the factory rack and your particular suspension setup. Typically LX suspension LX arms, UC suspension UC arms, A9X suspension A9X arms.

I have been to Dirtbags shed and had a look at the setup and we had a chat about it a few weeks back, it was Tim who pointed out to me the Power steer rack had better location and geometry then the standard rack. He is a very cluey bloke and his hotrod building background means he knows what he is talking about with pivot points ackerman etc

and my comments are that given the car had been messed around with by previous owner we don't know what the actual setup is, stub axles steering arms etc

As for LH and LX verses UC rack
I know thaty had different ratios but I have also heard but not confirmed that tie rod arms are a different lenght

if that is the case, it changes my stance on the issue a bit

The owner will need to send me his/hers steering arms to ream the ends to suit the outer tie rod ends, (I will ream them in the kit price).

I have three suspension setups.

UC with UC rack
UC with Axistr power rack
LX with Cortina power rack

I am very interested to hear how the Axistr rack is significantly different to the UC rack in terms of geometry.

Where did I say "significant", it only takes minor changes to make major differences

And getting back to the point I keep making and you seem most determined to miss, we do not know exactly what setup the car Tim is working on are, steering arms and stubs

I thought we were discussing what steering arms Axistr recommends to use with his power steering. I have tried to explain that Axistr recommends using the same steering arms you would use with a factory rack.

what the setup recommended by the maker of the power steer is.

Twice you mentioned that the Axistr power steering has better location and geometry.

From what I have seen of the power steer rack it is very different in location to standard rack, much better then standard rack in fact.

If the power steering does have a better location and geometry that produces measurable improvements then I would call that significant no matter how subtle the changes are. Axistr has also mentioned the power rack is better than the factory rack however he has not explained what is better. I would like to know what is better about the Axistr power steering rack.

In WA a bump steer analysis is required for registration. I could get the suspension workshop to plot the improvements of the Axistr rack vs the factory rack if I know what to look for.

Hi Dirtbag,
I have been following your progress from day one as I am also converting a UC hatch. Can you tell me where you got your drop tank from as I want to buy one. How much was it? Keep up the great work!

Well it's been a while since I added anything so figured I'd better get some more pics up here.

First thing I did was make a return line to suit the new fuel rails. I just used 5/16 bundy tube.

Posted Image

Luckily for me the drop tank already had a fitting for a return line which I had just blocked off. It's the hose at the top of the tank.

Posted Image

Here it is at the fuel rail. I'll have to fit a regulator in here eventually.

Posted Image

I also fitted some foam/rubber to the inside of the collars where the intake pipes run through.

Posted Image

I put the wiper motor back together with tiny stasinless allen bolts.

Posted Image

I also started on the A/C. This is all you can see of the plumbing in the engine bay.

Posted Image

I also fitted all the engine wiring and computer back into the car and hooked it all up.

Posted Image

Here's some of the A/C hoses fitted. I don't like the look of an alloy radiator through a black grill, but luckily there wont be much of it visible soon.

Posted Image

Here's the A/C condenser fitted. It's as big as I could fit in the space available. It should do a good job.

Posted Image

I also thought I'd give the dash a quick paint with some matt black, so if there are any gaps in the plastic the yellow etch primer wont show through the gaps.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Put the exhaust back on and it now has a tailshaft. Once the clutch is bled it should move on it's own. Has no brakes yet though : )

Posted Image

Finally after all the A/C stuff was fitted I could fit the front spoiler. I had to put a front flare on too just to see how it looked.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Pretty tail pipes. I can't wait to get the chrome back. Bumpers will make a big difference. So will painting inside the fuel filler tunnel and fitting the number plate mount.

Does aonyone have a decent chrome number plate light they'd like to sell me PLEASE!!!!!!!

Finally got the wiper mechs painted so could fit the wiper motor.

Posted Image

Posted Image

After trying a few brands I finally found a vinyl spray that I liked the look of to do the dash. It's just motospray satin black, but I like it.

I even took the A/C unit apart and painted it, as it looked mega crap next to the freshly painted dash. The column copped the same treatment before it was put back in too.

I even had a little helper today.

Posted Image

I had to put the covers back on just so I could look at it again after all the dramas with the new fuel rails. Long story, too lazy to tell it. But it actually starts and runs now.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The dynamat arrived today so I started putting that in this arvo. I've never used it before. It was quite fun in some sick way : )

Posted Image

I did the underside of the roof. Geez it makes a big difference. Tap on the roof now with a finger tip and it just goes "thud". Very impressed.

I also glued the new B pillar/rear side window vinyl on. I have a graet fear of contact adhesive : )

Posted Image

Here's just a couple of pics for the sake of it, just because I like them : )

So does anyone have a decent chrome number plate light I can buy?

Looking really good Dirtbag. This car just keeps getting better.

Why are you scared of contact adhesive?

Hey Mick. It scares me because it's a one shot deal. Not too much room for error there : )

^^^AGREED^^^ Id turn around and tell my brother that the car was just a figment of his imagination, there was NEVER A TORANA. This is your car, he's just having a realistic dream and spending lots of money at the same time,

Did you get your little gift in the post yet??

Are you using the right stuff? You should be able reposition for at least 20 minutes after applying, after an hour or so you'll start to rip the paint off though...
