After all he phuked up a perfectly good UC and made a freak!
Great thread and a brilliant build, car looks SO good, if GMH had built them like that they would have had to make twice as many.
When can i drop mine of for some work?

Well I just thought I'd come back here and say the car is still going but my brother hasn't handed me the keys yet : )
I went down to canberra last year for a visit and snapped a couple of pics.
Hahaha we're so mature : )
I took this one with my phone going through the tunnel near Civic.
My friend Adam is an awesome photographer and took a bunch of pics of the car for Simey, so thanks Adam!!!
Here's a few.
So there you go : )

It has the perfect stance. Too many LH/LX torries sit so awkwardly due to the wheel/tyre choices or they have the 80s style rake to clear the uncut rear guards.
But you sir, have found perfection!

Just to annoy people (probably)... I am soooo glad the car does not have the rear spoiler. I love the shape of the hatches without it.
i agree, it looks much better without the rear spoiler, UC's rock

Well I haven't been in here for a while!!!
Ben, yes a blower would be lovely, but unfortunatley illegal : (
Well my brother and his lovely fam came up here a few weeks ago for a holiday and he brought the gearbox x member with him so I could chop it up : )
The reason being it made the exhaust too low.
This kind of shows how bad it was. Considering this is now Simons only car and gets driven every day it needed a bit more clearance.
So the plan was to cut sections out above the pipes and raise them. Simple. This is the before shot. There's about 35mm above the crossmember above the pipes, so that's how far I'm going to raise the crossmember.
So I made up a simple jig and used nutserts (of course hahaha) to bolt the x member to it.
Simon wanted to do some welding, so I tacked the jig together and let him fully weld the jig. His welding is excellent!
So with the jig made and the crossmember fitted to it I started chopping : )
I'm using 6mm wall pipe for the new pieces to allow room for the exhaust, with pieces of 10mm plate as bracing.
I gave it a quick sand up.
And finally a coat of black.
I then introduced Simon to the plasma cutter : )
I think he liked it : )
So anyway, that was what we did up here. Simon took the crossmember back home and stuck it back in the car. Heaps of clearance now so he can get the exhaust modified to suit.
Here's another before shot, showing how low the exhaust is. Plus the car has actually been raised recently so it was lower than this!
And after the exhaust was changed.
Simon also fitted a tail shaft loop.
And he also fitted this swirl pot (or whatever it's called??) above the drop tank to stop it surging.
Here it is parked outside his work next to a friends VW.
And what's with the tail shaft loop and tow strap?
Well he's entered the car in this -
So there it is. The car is still going and getting driven every day, just like a car should be!!!!
Oh, and he had Jakes Performance in canberra retune it recently and it spun up 243rwkw. Not bad for a stock motor!
I found a couple of pics that are just silly but I like them. Neither of us drink a lot, but when we get together a beer is nice so we made sure we got some bogan pics : )
10.45am sounds like beer time to us, especially when we're about to weld a crossmember and play with a plasma cutter : )
That's it for now : )

When it comes to the nutsert tool, are they all much of a muchness? or are you better to pay more for a better quality tool?
Cheers

That cross member will be stronger now than it was before too, many of the off the shelf conversion ones seem to be under engineered and have a lot of flex.
