Interesting that you decided to add to the flare to meet the original guard rather than cut it away - not planning on big rolling diameter tyres?

Seeing it all the same colour does make it look like everything belongs, its hard to see where a lot of your good work has gone in now though!

Hey 76lx. The main reason for adding to the flare and not cutting more metal out was because the flare was just the wrong shape and looked odd. I tried to adjust the flare a heap of times, and if I got that area looking good then the whole rest of the flare was out of whack. It just seemed the least time consuming way of fixing the problem. Now it's done, it's the same shape as the other rear flare. Does that make sense?
I've actually opened all the flares up by cutting wedges out of the front and rear sections and fibreglassing them back together to allow room for the 265/50s that will be going on it.
Can't wait to see it with decent wheels : )

Just stumbled across this pic. and it made me think of this thread

Posted Image

It looks like a morphed UC/LX Nosecone. With a camaro look headlight/grill.

I reckon it looks the goods!

Hell yeah Matt, that thing is amazing!!!! Makes my effort look a bit lame : )

I love how they've given the rear quarters a camaro like curvy hip look to them. I'd love to see more pics, like of the rear. Very cool.

For wheels, I'm thinking 12 slotters or 13x7 cheviot armorlites : ) hahahahaha.....NOT!!!!!

The scoop will probably still be functional. If it is not part of the engine intake then it should help to reduce engine bay temperature. Some people lift the back of the bonnet for this reason which while functional is not a good look.

Im not sure if this is 100% true but an old mechanic once told me that the A9X scoop didnt actually draw air in, it was used to allow the race teams to run different carb's that wouldn't fit under the bonnet and also to allow heat to be drawn out of the engine bay area as ls2lxhatch mentions above, but anyway sorry to create a drama! was just a thought :surrenderwave::spoton: oh by the way! my jedi mind powers are telling me Convo Pro's are on the wheel selection list..AMIRITE?

Hey AD_75. The scoop does actually draw air in. In fact I've even seen one blow off a car from the upwards pressure. Pity it was my car : (

Well, your Jedi mind powers are strong. Convo pros are definitely in the top 5. What will number 1 be? We'll just have to wait and see : )

Having said that, the wheels are bought and on their way. A nice new set of 15x7 sunraysia's. Oh shit, I gave it away : )

Well today was an exciting day filled with sanding, then a bit of sanding, followed by some sanding and then a bit of painting : )

It's all starting to look half decent now though.

The bonnet was a bit of a shocker, but with the first 2 coats of primer I was finally able to figure out where it was wrong and got it sorted out after dry sanding it with a long board.

Posted Image

There was an annoying low spot that was near impossible to feel but showed itself once I blocked the bonnet down. I used a bit of Dolphin Glaze over a larger area and it smoothed out really nicely.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Looks like an awful lot of filler, but none of it is thick. I'd guess the thickest bit would be 2mm. It's just annoying being such a big flat area. Sikaflexing the bonnet skin back onto the framework underneath makes it a lot easier though, as the bonnet doesn't wobble up and down as you sand it.

The right side of the engine bay also got a rub down and a few dabs with the stop putty.

Posted Image

The nose cone, flares and rear wheel arches also got some fine tuning in readiness for their second lot of primer.

Posted Image

Once all the sanding and puttying was finished, it was time for some more primer.

This time I'm using a slightly different primer. It's still Protec 2k primer filler, but it's a darker grey. My poor old eyes have trouble seeing the imperfections in the light grey.

Posted Image

This is the part of the left rear flare that I added a fair bit of fibreglass to. I think it looks good. Can't really tell it's different.

Posted Image

I'm happy with how the grill surround turned out, as it needed a fair bit of attention.

Posted Image

The side of the engine bay is a lot better now too. I really like smooth torana engine bays.

Posted Image

I'm stoked with how the bonnet looks this time around. I thought it was never going to be straight there for a while.

For all the work I've done to this car, it sure does look like a dunger at the moment : )

Things always have to look bad before they can look good. I hope : )

Well that's it until next week.

Ah now I see why you left the top section of the nose removable and didn't weld the gap up.

Speaking of 12 slotters, the wheels arrived today : )

Posted Image

Nice aren't they : )

You can see them when the car is finished. My brothers' orders.

I also cut the sump to bits today and will hopefully get it welded soon as I don't have an AC/DC TIG.

The first bit to get cut out is to allow room for the crossmember and steering rack.

Posted Image

Then I took 50mm out of the depth of the pan.

Posted Image

Now I need to make a new middle section and get it welded together.

I'm not 100% sure the wheels are wide enough. Do you think we should have gone bigger? hahaha

Good to see that the wheels get pride of place on the kitchen bench, that's something I would do :-)
