polly fill as polyster bog. most of the time you see a little bit of rust coming through there will be alot more under te paint thats why i sugested to paint strip the whole bonnet.

ok thanks
that's a new one on me
normally just bog it then prime and spray putty it lol

its different as normal bog its used for small dents over paint and primer it sticks alot better. i never use normal bog over rusted areas. the polyester filler sticks right into the pitted area

Poly is usually 2 pac so you won't find it in a can.

yer i know that , but when i went to autobahn and that they hadnt heard of it. my dad uses a paint supply shop to get his gear from so going to try them tomorrow was just curious to whether K & H supplied it

that tub looks like it it always comes in a small tub like that. does it say polyester filler? iv never used that brand as i get all my materials through work and we get it through our paint supplier.another thing you will need is some spray putty primer to go over the bogged up area to get all the scratches out. you can get it in a can if your going that way but i would only use it over the bog and just use the etch over metal areas but you will have to sand the metal down with 180 and 320 to get it smooth as possible.

Jezus Christ Autobarn made a mint off you....

Coulda got all the same stuff for half the price from your local paint supplyer.....

I use that K&H Kahfil like you got from them around home though, its pretty good, and no its not a poly just a normal bog. Reason i get that is i dont use much bog around home, if i buy a good brand which only comes in 4kg tins i will only use 10% of it and have to throw the rest out, shelf life is about six months after you open the tin....

Cheers.

mate dont buy the canned spray putty they clog up the nossle big time
borrow/hire/buy a compressor and spray gun and buy your paint in litre/4 litre tins
ends up cheaper and you get a better job out of it
found that out the hard way lol

very true!!! but if he's only doing small repairs then it should be fine. i would be spraying with a gun tho even if you buy the acrylic putty from super crap auto's then you could putty prime the whole bonnet

Sorry to have a dodgy paint & panel influence here. I've done a fair bit of bodywork and painting etc, and I believe I know how to do things the right way when appropriate, but I think you guys are aiming Ben the wrong way.

He just wants to paint a bonnet in matte black, even if he did the best prep work in the world it would still look f*cking shit, it's just because he wants to have a filter out the bonnet or something isn't it?

Wire brush the area that's rusty, rust convert it and bog over it, shape the bog, give THAT area a little squirt of primer surfacer, wet rub the whole thing back in 400, give it a few good coats. The end

If he wanted to paint it to match the rest of the car, my attitude would be different.

no offence heath but was just trying to give a little of my experance to someone starting out
yes by all means paint it with spray cans
done it heaps of times
but they always look dodgey and you can pick em a mile away
and if you do more than two panels you may well have just brought a cheap 2nd hand compressor and spray gun for the same price
dude just paint it gmh black cheap as and looks the same as matt

maybe you should re read the first post. i have only advised what i think he should do. yeah he's spraying it matt black with cans but who said he wasn't going to paint it up properly later? why not do all the work before then if he decides to have it painted to match the car all the prep work is done. you say it might have gotten a wee bit outa hand? why because beer gut was saying it will be easier and make a better job with a spray gun? use don't no if he's got one or not so why bother commenting. all we are doing is giving our advice. it just seems that everyone is an expert these days lol

Don't take it the wrong way. You guys definitely aren't giving him bad advice, I would just choose a different approach in this situation.

As far as the helpfulness is concerned, if TUFF75LH355 lived locally to me, I wouldn't hesitate to go over to his house and show him exactly how I'd execute the work and give him a good hand with it - I'm on holidays anyway so I've been doing that kinda shit with other people quite a lot, and obviously learning by demonstration & having a crack at it is much more effective than reading off a computer screen

Clinton I don't think it's that 'everyone is an expert', but everyone definitely has their own approach
I'm just not very subtle as was pointed out on here yesterday or something

i no everyone has there own way of doing things thats why we have been giving him ideas.no one has said do this do that. we are all just saying how we would do it.its always good to learn on the way aswell and if it were me asking te questions i no i would want to do as much as possible to the panel for the experience. anyways we should stick to the topics.

cheers
