Can someone advise the difference between LH-LX-UC steering arms? are the lengths different, are angles different from mounting hole to ball joint on rack? any advice appreciated. al.

The mounting points and tie rod end holes are the same. The difference is in the length and height of the arm where the tie rod bolts on.

There are pictures in this thread, however they are not working at the moment. Hopefully dangerous will reactivate the photobucket account. In the meantime I have loaded the pictures here.

Steering arms

red one on right is standard LX, middle black one is UC, left one - black with white paint splotch is A9X. Note how much lower the A9X one sits.

Side on view of same - this time with A9X one on bottom. Note that the LX one is shorter than the other two.

Comparison of UC and A9X one mounted on the A9X stub axle. Pretty close - definitely better than using an LX one.

You can buy aftermarket ones (quite expensive), but yeah the originals are impossible to get

Looking and comparing the photos, the arms I have(purchased as UC) look different, how hard is it to purchase UC arms....the arms I have the P/N ends in 5053 and 5054. al.

Steering arm part numbers here:

http://www.gmh-toran...showtopic=33999

but they don't end in 5053 or 5054...? If you have steering arms that aren't Torana at all don't use them as they will be way out.

Harrops do reproduction A9X steering arms last I heard about $400 a pair and you use them on with HQ - WB stub axles swapping stub axles left to right so caliper mount is still in the forward position

Excellent pictures Andy best I havve seen yet showing the different arms

So, to further muddy the waters, are the LX RTS steering arms the same as the pre RTS LX arms, the same as UC arms or different from all others?
Thanks.

LH and LX are the same except for A9X which were unique to that car, and the UC was different again
LX Rts and Non RTS used the same steering arms, the rts cars had sway bars front and rear (I think)

the History goes something like this

LH ---------understeer heaven

LX--------- more of the same but with round headlights (wow hot stuff)

LX ----------with RTS an improvement with sway bars added front and rear (have heard it refered to RTS phase 1)

UC---------- new upper wishbones, steering arms and steering rack (refered to as RTS phase 2)

A9X ----------simalar to UC but beefer stub axles and brakes and unique steering arms (and refered to as RTS phase 3)

This reads like the LH & LX SLR's had no rear sway bars and the LH L34 was no better handling than the RTS LX unfortunately. I have to disagree.

So your saying the UC was the ulimate handling setup?
I got my infor from articals I read years ago and mags that I still have packed away back in NZ so I cannt refresh my memory but UC was difinitly phase 2 and A9X phase 3
the story went something like we took the torana and modified it until it looked like swiss cheese welding bits on and changing geomtry until we got something that worked that was the A9X with the mods carried over to the UC

Now I know the timings wrong but I think it was Brock and Harvey doing the testing and brock telling the story, published in Street machine about 20 years ago

it is a free world disagree all you like, I will confess I know bugger all about the L34 I always focused on A9X and race car setups. there were detail diffences between RTS and non RTS but most ariticles I have read descibe differences as being basically sways bars being made standard fittment on RTS and true RTS didnt arive till A9X / UC
