Well i've finally finished buffing! I finally desided that foam buffing pads were taking too long so i bought a wool buffing pad, the wool does a 1000x better job at cutting. I was scared i would cut through the paint using the wool but it has done a beautiful job at removing all the sanding scratches. I guess the foam pads are more for polishing than cutting...

I started to gather all the bits and peices to fit the headlights, it turns out the lights i have dont match so ill have to buy some new ones (maybe those cryistal ones?) but i fitted a pair to see what it looks like. I also cleaned some of the cutting compound from around the engine bay to make it look a little nicer. Mmmmm its shiney, but i seem to have a couple of chips on the nose already *sigh*> I think there from when people were carrying stuff around the car in a cleanup :(.

I only have one pic and its from my phone, sorry!

I've desided to take the engine out again and clean it up. I've been having a lot of trouble getting the tranny's pan to seal so while its out ill replace all its seals. That will be a job for after the body is all re-assembled tho.

Time to buy one of those ebay alloy radiators i think :), the 6cyl one just isnt cutting it!

Can you still buy front glass for these new?

Well i bit the bullet (led, yuk) and finally ordered a few things to help this go back together.

I bought...

1x "super" rubber kit (bend over, $$$)
1x front windscreen from local windscreen shop
1x rear screen from rarespares
1x rares grill
1x window reg repair kit (just the wheels)
1x rivet moulding stud replacement kit

Man that shits expensive.

Thanks :).

My super (with a lisp) rubber kit arrived. Lots of rubber in there, i never really thought about how much all the rubbers weigh but theres a fair amount of weight in there.

A bit of a question, when installing the door seals does anyone use a sealant between the door seals and the door etc? When i replaced the seals on my old HQ sedan i found after 12 months some of the rubber had torn around the push in tabs.

I love how they advertise these kits as complete. So far its missing the plastic plugs that the door seals push into...

Picked them up at clarke rubber, 95c ea...

The door now closes! yay. I would have fitted the glass but the regulator has chewed its bottom teeth off as they are known to do :(. I do have electric window regulators i bought, but i'm thinking i might ebay them because i think they will fetch some huge $$$ as im not really interested in having fast glass in this car...

Awesome Jabba!

What did the rubber kit cost you?

My door rubbers are stuffed (again) too the door is probably sagging and it has torn around the push pins up the top ( rearward edge) of the door near the window.... 100Mph tape works wonders there ;P

Looking good mate, getting closer!

Hey Tiny,

The rubber kit cost $1100 inc postage off ebay. It consists of mostly rarespares rubbers and a few bill thompson rubbers. Changing the pins in the door hinges isnt tooo hard. A lot easier if you have a small press :)

Yep, all the fiddley stuff left now. I'm enjoying it actually, just taking my time and making sure everything is properly adjusted.

You'll be stoked mate, and it's a credit to you!

Well its been a long time since i've touched this car, 22 August 2010 :surrenderwave:. Seems i just lost motivation to do it and i think i know why, im up to the boring fiddly bits. I did a bit today and nearly fell asleep haha.

Here it is, peaking its head out
Posted Image

I've kicked the old purple HQ out of the shed so i have some room to work, i'm going to dump it out in the shed at the family farm for the foreseeable future. Its sitting in the driveway now so in the next 2 weeks ill do that. I mentioned to a few people that i would sell it (regrettably) and had a few people express interest in buying it, told me they would call to organise a look on the weekend and never did so frOck them all its going into storage :furious:. Its in the middle of know where and will be nice and dry, it can hang out with my other HQ sedan :P.

On friday i fixed the damn transmission fluid leak, its been leaking since i put the b&m shift kit in it. This time i used a smear of silicon on the cork gasket and tadaaa, no leaks. I filled the transmission up and was running through the gears when i burst a cooler hose, man that made a mess. I just bypassed the cooler for now since its not going anywhere anytime soon. Today i just fitted a door rubber, i was going to fit the door strike but the latch i was going to use seems to have lost its spring that makes the latch go into its open position so i called it quits for today.

Anyway on with the interesting things, a video :P

Sorry about the crap on the lens again, really should clean that.

Hey Ron, your more than welcome to come take a look, do you still have my mobile number? I'm torn between wanting to sell it and sticking it in storage, its a fairly nice shell and my first car. Itll be sad to sell it :(.

I was wondering what had happened with this project. It sounds awesome running. Compared to the other car you're doing this ones not that far off. At least most of the crap hard work looks done.

Yeah theres really bugger all left to bolt on, just clean up the odd bits and pieces and fit them. I've decided ill get all the chrome redone as it would be a shame to stick scabby old crap on there. I also have to pull the subframe out and repaint it. I managed to spill some break fluid on the por15 and it bubbled up and rusted underneath, i wasnt too impressed with that :(. I think ill paint it in black 2k this time.

Hopefully the correct window regulator kit turns up this week as they sent me a HK kit by mistake, then i can get the front glass up.

Front passenger guard, looks ok but running my hand over it feels a little bumpy.

Front door, also has rust in the inner skin. i have other doors for it, slightly better.

Passenger cowl, could be rust but also looks like a paint chip. Maybe i was digging for rust?

This is what im left with after my nephew stopped coming around to complete it but theres not much work to finish it. It was bare metalled in the early 2000's and painted in 2k paint, the primer on the doors is also 2k. 99% of that rust showed its head after it was painted, when it was painted none of that rust had come through :(.

It used to look like this a few years back, filthy dirty. Dont paint cars in dark colours :P
