Haven't done much work lately as i've been saving every cent i make to try and get this thing finished in time for the Redland Bay Car Show, firstly changed a couple of small things in thew engine bay as i wasn't happy with the way it was, also bought myself some new switches and some vinyl to do my interior that i have started. Also decided to buy some new gauges to replace the factory gauges. Mostly everyone that i have seen mounts their gauges on a flat piece of panel, i decided i wanted to try and make it look factory but with new style gauges, next on the list is to orginise a electrican to come out and finish off and double check the wiring that i have started as i don't want to set my car on fire. Here's some photos of my gauge cluster that i modified.

That looks pretty good, are there black faces available for the gauges? Whats the one on the left, fuel pressure?

I think that is one of the best custom dash's around, still old school but modern at the same time. Well done.

coolngroovy, you must be able to travel through time as when i first bought my hatch it had custom interior that was done in the 90's everything was velour and the gauges in it were digital, when i first saw it my though WOW, but as time went on through the build the more i disliked the setup that was in it. I wanted to keep it old school but with more of a modern day touch with the gauges, so that's why i have done what i have done.

76lxhatch, yes you can get these gauges in black faces with red bow tie symbol, but they don't do a speedo and they don't do an in dash tacho, that is why i went white face instead, i will be using red covers for the light bulbs so they will glow red at night i am hoping it will look good and yes the gauge on the left is fuel pressure i will be mounting my oil pressure and water temp on my centre consol as i did not want to chop up my dash as the 4 gauges fit without any modifing to the metal behind them.

Yes....my tardis is working fine.....well it will be if i can just fuse the magnetic magma multiplier with the tom tom. :)

I like the alternative m8. Another piece of individualality with your car. Full credit to you!

I had a VK Calais with the starwars dash. I tired of it after a while.

heath / slr_V8, no that is not how i did it. What i did was buy 2 old dashes one with gauges one without just in case my idea didn't work, what i first did was cut out the old pods where the gauges went then i cut a piece of aluminium, i then went to Bunnings and bought some PVC piping to mount the gauges in i measured up the holes in th aluminium so they would fit in the original position i then cut the PVC piping on an angle so the gauges would be facing me, i fibre glassed all this together sanded it bogged it sanded it primed it sanded it sprayed bogged it sanded it again primed it one more time and than painted it, it sounds easy when you say it like that but it took me a week and a half to get it to the stage where i was happy enough to paint it. So no i did not use one of those metal panels from ebay and mine only cost me $60.00 and some of my time. Thanks to everyone for the comments i will keep undating as i keep progressing with my work.

Yeah yours looked very different to the ones on eBay. If you managed to get any photos of the process, I'd be quite interested in seeing how you did it.

AD_75, if i was going to start selling my gauge cluster design i would make another one and change the design a little bit and then look at getting a mould made, so it could be made out of plastic in one piece, as this would be better, but to do this would not be cheap and i don't have the money but if anyone else is interested in using my design go right ahead i have not problems with that.

I would like to see something like this made by a keen fibreglasser. Even if they required the holes drilled out, edged cleaned up, panels filled smooth etc it wouldn't be a problem.

Maybe it's a good project for Bomber Watson?
