hey brett. im slowly getting there. totally stripped the interior, took the gtr dash out slowly because i was unsure whether it had a original gtr wiring loom so i took off each wire at a time and labelled them all so i know where they go haha. seats out, door trims, dash pad etc. the engine bay is almost complete. Going to take out the old disk brake front end that was in there and put in another disk brake front end we purchased when we got the car, because it contained new ball joints and nolathane bushes etc then i can finish it all off with satin black while the front ends out then put the front end back in once its redone and ill go from there. and going for a spin? in your car? that would be a dream mate! because if i could get my car to sound or go anything like yours does then ill be over the moon, just love the sound of your LJ. also how those webers goin? staying in tune? ill look forward to seeing you at GM day. if i can get the 4 door lc tory registered ill head up there in that coz its just up the road for me.

Cheers Blakey

Your doing great Blake and a great choice of interest you have made on the torana, can you put a picture up of your original torana it sounds like a great car also

One thing you might want to check Blake is I think they have bought in new laws for P plate drivers against performance parts on cars and Im not sure if this would effect your ability on P's to have triple carbs of any description, hopefully its ok but if your not sure might pay to check. might need to put a single on it till your off the P's,, Fingers crossed for you,

seeing your cross-member like that is so familiar to me as it wasn't that long ago, also the battery tray, I cut down my original one to the right size and relocated it for the drain hole to still lign up right,

I am sure your loving every minute of working on your car as we all do and you have a great dad to point you in the right direction in cars and not the import wizzers

VERY impressive, especially for someone as young as you mate. I absolutely love it, tough but classic.
Wherabouts in SA are you? we need to go for a cruise once one of your cars is regoed and you have your license. And don't worry about the P-plate restriction laws, they haven't actually come into effect yet. They are not passed, just seggestions in response to media poutcry.

Also, if you ever want help doing some work, i'm always itching to get my hands dirty under almost any car.

Keep up the good work. and if you have a price in mind for the motor with tripples, Shoot me PM as I'd be interested.

Ah, was meant to be going away to the Barossa next week but now I'm not... wish I was now though. My missus travels out there weekly.
That's okay about the motor, at that price I would've gone for a 5 litre anyway, which is what I'm doing in the up and coming months.

Just re-reading the thread, do you have a spare disk-brake front end per chance? and what is this GM day you speak of?
Man, your thread is making me miss working in the shed, it all begins again soon!

hey just wondering, what colour/type of black where these front crossmembers? im thinking of going with a semi-gloss wich is similar to satin but with a shine to it, or just go gloss black to add the detail.

spent this weekend doin some odd jobs on the car. yesterday i wirebrushed the inside floorpan with the drill. i also cleaned up the boot floor with the wire brush on a grinder as the boot floor is badly rusted, and i really need another rear half of a torana due to the swiss cheese holes. finally today i started rubbing down my bathurst fuel tank so that its ready for when i put it in. i started by rubbing it down with wet sandpaper, but i was going no where with that, so i had this rubber brush attachment thta my dad has and i put that into the drill. this brang the tank up like brand new and was just ripping off old glue and paint. here are some attached photos of some of the work:

Nice work.

Patience and persistance pays off in the long run.

Mick.

P.S. Don't leave it too long before you get some paint on it.

will be getting some kill rust for the flooorpan and also painting the tank in primer then giving it a guide coat to smoot it out before paint. also to any one out there, what is the colour combo of an original LC XU1 tank? im led to believe that they where silver on top and black on the bottom?

During these school holidays ive started paint stripping the back half of the car, like quarter panels and the rear beaver.while paint stripping i havnt found a panel without bog or rust. the worst bit is the rear beaver that had very thick bog placed over massive rust holes.heres a picture of the damage, sorry about the poor photo, its abit fuzzy. has anyone had experience with the rare spares beaver panels, or rust replacement panels in general? how do they fit?

Well its been a while since i last updated. since then ive turned 16, got my Ls and have done a few things to the torry. for my birthday i got some money so i bought some rust replacement panels like the beaver panel and lower rear quarter/sill. currently putting them on and its all going well. fuel tank is all painted and ready for when the car is, and have started to strip the 186 that goin in it.....and thats were things went down hill...kinda put it on the engine stand drained the oil and spun it upside down, took the sump off and its like brand new, intil we found the rear main cap is cracked very badly, probly from bad endfloat or most probly someone has tried to put an auto behind it with a manual bolt through it and crushed the main cap, so i took the one off of the spare 186, swapped bearings, cleaned it up and then stripped the rest of the motor ready for paint and gaskets then put back togethor so it looks like a genuine xu1 engine, apart from the engine number, pics to come soon, having trouble with photo bucket......

Cheers Blake :)

If I'm reading this correctly, are you saying you swapped a main cap from one engine to another?
:dontknow:
That could lead to problems as during manufacture, the main cap tunnels are line bored with the caps assembled to the block.
Which means the main caps will only suit the block they are machined to.
