injected or carbed
easy and cheap
all the others require a lot of dollars/enginering/welding frocking around

Engine and get it built/rebuilt
Radiator
Gearbox and clutch with crossmember
Tailshaft
Diff
Brake upgrade
Fuel system
Plus the incidentals that can seriously add up.
There is no change from 10-12 grand, and that's without any labour costs if you need to get someone to help you.
Once that's done you will more than likely want to do body and interior.
Good luck any way you go and don't lose sight of your dream. However, don't kid yourself. Cars aren't cheap no mater what you do!
Sorry if that sounds like I'm discouraging you cause that's not my aim. I have read and felt your frustrations, and your call for help with guidance. This forum can guide you, but if you are the one carrying out the works, you need to be prepared to fail a few times before you get on top of things.
As I said above, good luck and don't forget your dream!!!!!

If you're going for injection why not go with an injected 202 ?
That would be the cheapest. And no engineer's certificate.
Stick a 12 port head and VK injection on your motor (or buy a complete engine), an aftermarket fuel only ECU and a nice little cam and extractors.
A Celica 5 speed conversion maybe, and Bob's your Mum's boyfriend.
Until you start calling him Dad, that is.

The injected 202 is good and cheap. And you can use the M76 five speed which bolts straight up. Bogans will say that its too weak but only if you're flat out abusive to it. With the overdriven 5th gear you could keep your short diff gears and it will cruise nicely on the highway as well.
Or if you want even better and cheaper fit a gas system to the injected manifold. In my VK I used an Impco 225 inline mixer and the VK EFI manifold and throttle body. Because it's straight gas I blanked off the injector holes with appropriately sized welsh plugs. The engine, gearbox and gas system (excluding tank and certification) cost me under 1K. Its rough but cheap as to run and responsive to drive.
And with gas you can run higher comp.
If you want it to look neater you could use a Gasresearch throttle body / mixer like this guy has:

If you're using an angle grinder I've found the cone shaped wire brushes are heaps safer and easier to control than the actual wheel types. I only use the wheels for hard to get at places. The cone ones spit a few wires out here and there so make sure you are well covered but the wheel ones can grab and kick and end up anywhere.... like tangled up in the front of your overalls for example.

90 bucks for a secondhand unit sounds a bit expensive to me.

Sure the ring gear on the flywheel isn't the problem?

The falcon i bought is up for rego next week and needs tyres to pass blue slip so i got the torana looked over.
The list was:
Exhaust leak
Clutch cover
Brake pedal pad
Wash down oil leaks/grime on motor
After a bit of work it passed roady today so im stoked thay i can drive it again soon.
I have also been through the top end of the motor with new gaskets and fitted a stock cast manifold as the extractors were cracked from the backfire. So it turns out that the cog coming off the dizzy did more damage than i thought. It ended up needing the two gaskets, cracked extractors replaced, new flywheel (yet to be bought) and the cog.
The motor still seems to be running a bit rough and is blowing a bit of black smoke. Not sure if its missing on a cylinder or the head gasket didnt seal right so i might try and pick up another motor when i can.
Anyway the car still looks the same so no need for pics
