Hopefully only need a cotter pin for the steering and brakes will be bolted up tomorrow just have to bleed them and hope they work.

Over the years ive probably sunk 15k or more into this car and its still going nowhere and doesnt even look like its had any money spent on it. Im just trying to be realistic about what I can achieve On my budget with a family and rent and bills and no parts around here.

If I cant get the v8 box in time and decide to keep it I will have to buy a cheap 202 jist to get it driveable.

My torana sat for years until I could afford to start rebuilding it. Why not put it on a car trailer, take it with you and put it on ice for a few years until you get yourself established, after all it's for the love of it and if you love toranas you will probably want another in the future anyway.

I agree that you need a reliable daily and let's face it we are talking about a 40 year old car, to be honest is best for hobby/ weekend cruiser.

Previously I bought and drove a shitty Magna as a daily as it was cheap and reliable (cringe). Ten years down the track I have an awesome daily (ve) and a good job and I'm rebuilding my torana with no regrets, plus I've had a bunch of kids in the meantime.

All I'm trying to say is that life will get better, and owning a torana makes life better :)

I hope so I have an ef falcon as a daily. The move we are making will be difficult as will have to organise a house and a job at the Same time. Problem is ive never been able to decide on a career and am stuck working a shitty job on a minimum wage with no end in sight. Every better job I apply for I never hear from its so frustrating.

Hey mate I've got a V8 Aussie four speed here with M21 ratios in it, a flywheel and second hand clutch pressure plate. You're welcome to have them if you come and get them. If it will help you be able to keep and drive the car.

Havent got a bellhousing or shifter though. Let me know if you want them.

You are a bloody legend Mick!

~ Will a 6 cyl shifter work? And is it cable clutch?

Any Aussie 4 speed shifter and linkages will do Steve (M20 / M21 / M22), there were some different gear sticks attached to them over the years but if you've got bucket seats that shouldn't be a problem, six cylinder and V8 shifters should be interchangeable.

The clutch setup will depend on which bellhousing & fork you get as Mick doesn't have them.

No worries let us know.

If you can, see if you can get a bell housing to suit full cable. It will have the pivot ball effectively on the passenger side of the bell housing, so the cable 'pulls' on the clutch fork instead of pushing.

No, the gearbox will bolt up to it but the engine bolt pattern is different, plus the V8 input shaft (in the front of the gearbox) is also longer than a six cylinder version.

Without trawling back through the thread, are you sure the V8 you have is a Trimatic pattern? Some 5.0L's came with a Chev bolt pattern and a TurboHydro350/400 behind them, although if it's a 4.2L then you're safe as they were all Trimatic pattern.

Agreed the full cable bellhousing is the way to go so you're looking for one from an early V8 manual Commodore (VB to VK), if not you will also need the plate and pivot setup from a V8 Torana or even a hydraulic conversion.

EDIT: Also, check whether you have a spigot bush in the back of the crankshaft, it will be a bronze bushing pressed into the crank, they cost bugger all but you will definitely need one in there to support the front of the input shaft when the clutch is disengaged.

Understandably,it does seem a bit of a task, and it is,you have come this far and are doing fine so far, don't give now, take the offer of

some parts to help you out,no need to go the all out road, just as long as you are happy with it and everything works the way it should.

No need to do every upgrade known to man,the shell looks ok and as long as it goes/stops and gets ya where ya goin and back again

it will be ok.

Got a shifter & linkages from a 4 speed (6 cyl),the shifter needs a bit of a touch up here an there but if you are keen to continue and if anyone else is keen to not let see this go by the wayside....maybe we can help out a bit?...  :)

Thanks appreciate it im moving to dandenong to stay with family until I get a rental car will be stored In monbulk more than likely. It wont take heaps to get it going.

Things I absolutly need are:
The wiring finished
a cable clutch 4 speed belhousing
standard lines from tank to front of car
brakes bled
motor put back together ( will need a clean up) manifolds off and oil pump.
Radiator hoses and all the other little engine bay bits.
oh and eexhaust.

Wiring I will finish before the car goes anywhere and brakes will be hooked up and hopefully bled.
also planning to get the oil pump back on this week.

Im really thankful for everyones offers to help.

Haha thanks again for the offer. Ive been getting it together with the bits I have and im hoping the motor can be started in the next week or 2. Today ive been wiring in the engine bay loom.

Only have the coil, oil and temp sender to go.
then have to get an inlet manifold gasket.then hopefully i have enough hoses and bits around to hook everything up.
