Thanks will try it after work.

I have found 2 wreckers with the bellhousing I need but no clutch forks. Will the 6 cyl clutch fork work?

Well a big thanks to mick74lh. I owe you big time. Picked up the gearbox over the weekend.

I have found a bellhousing locally at the wreckers which is $90 so ill grab that in the nxt week if its still there.

Sadly it doesnt come with the fork so I will have to get one through dellows which is 18518$185 including post.

Will get the clutch ball and spigot bush from rares.

Then all I need is a flywheel and thrust bearing and ill have a complete box.

Other things to do are:
Make heater hoses
get coolant/water in there and check for leaks
change the oil again
some misc wiring under the dash.
bleed the brakes and get them working

And I think thats it well I hope anyway

What fanbelt do I need every one I have tried is either just too big or just too small. Tried about 10 from work now.

Other thing I noticed is I cant get all the adjustment in the bracket because the alt hits on the fuel pump.

Ill get pics when I can.

Has rares alt bracket
standard crank pulley and standard alternator.

I have 2 different size pump pulleys and currently have the larger one on there. Might have to try the small one

You do realise that the smaller pump pully will make the water pump spin quicker, which could lead to aeration or cavitation. Neither are good things.

Leave the v8 pulley on,what you can do is fit the alt. bracket on the passenger side head,it sits up of out the way (and not so much wire changing) and there will be a belt to fit, can't remember the # but it was 11A..... did it on the LH way back.   :)

If you leave the alt. in current position get a smaller belt, they come in a variety of sizes.

As I said ive tried a lot of smaller belts and the are all either still too long or too short. I wanna keep the rares bracket because it cost so bloody much

From memory the "11A" part is the cross-section, as in an 11A v-belt is 11mm across the outside width, a 13A would be 13mm wide.

The second part of the number is the length (in millimetres), so if you find an "11A-1145" is too short and an "11A-1165" is too long, then you need an "11A-1155", I'm pretty sure the length is measured around the outside circumference of the belt.

There are some calculators online where you enter the pulley diameters and centre distances and it will tell you the belt length too if you want to get technical.

The problem you may have is trying to compare belts of two different cross-sections, obviously a thicker v-belt will sit higher in the pulley and so appear to be longer.

Cool thread hawk, I've just read through all 33 pages over the past couple of days! Stick with it, you'll be cruising to the sweet burble of a V8 in no time!

yes as bigfella says. 11A is just the width of the belt. length is the other numbers..

if you have one close to what you need,eg a little long alittle short use that as a reference to what you need,

take it in to your local belt supplier. tell them you need longer or shorter, they should have the means of measuring it there. the numbers on a old belt may not be true as they can stretch a bit over time and may measure i little larger then they where new..
