Anyway stuffed around a bit tonight and finally got it started. Tapped the fuel pump to free it up and works like a charm. It wont idle yet though so more work to do but slowly getting closer.

Off the manifolds too about 10 mins ago so the neighbors will be pretty pissed off haha

Thanks well got back from melbourne this arvo and started mucking with it. Must have pissed off the neighbors more than I thought because someone had changed a couple of leads around while I was gone.

Anyway changed the plugs and got the firing order right and it still runs like a dog. Something still isnt right. I played with the timing and it didnt make a difference.

Dont know what to do next.

Also has new plugs, new leads and plenty of spark. Only thing I can think of is still a timing issue or ive broken something by runnimg it with the leads on wrong when I first got home.

Trespassing and interfering with private property ?

Step by step,,just set the initial timing at about 8-10 at idle, check for any vac lines that might need to be hooked up.,,that might sound stupid but it is easy to miss one.

Is always a bit hard sometimes when the pipes are loud to hear what is going on but even on  an open pipe an 8 should just "blat"

away nicely and evenly...one thing at a time.

for example,re check leads to plugs from dizzy , assume they are new and it is not hard to swap one over while fault finding?

vac leaks

pictures of set up...never know when one simple little thing will catch you out!.....like a lot of others....been there done that...

In what way is not running right ?

This might be the most stupid idea but make sure the firing order is correct , not hard to get one lead out of whack , done it a couple of times even after a few years and should have known better :)

The vac.takeoff from #4 i think had something to do with the diaphram near the exhaust "hot pipe" for choke and was temp. related?

Block them off till it runs ok....unleaded fuel was the cure to pollution problems  ^_^

The vac. advance port on the carb. will cause a problem with a cam because the butterfly will need to opened up a bit to get a half

decent idle and the port inside the carb. will be exposed causing an "air leak".( lean miss ).

The pipe that leads to the rocker cover  as you have fitted to the PCV valve from the base of the carb. is right, but.. usually had a "breather pipe" that led up to the air cleaner assy. from the opposite rocker cover....without some sort of "vent" it will pull a positive vac. inside the engine which might cause a problem ?

Cheers I have blocked off all vacc ports orher than the advance and booster.

The other rocker cover vent is open as I cant get anything in it with the heater fan box there.

Had a bit more of a play with it yesterday and get it running better. The timing is way off from the timing cover marks but thats the only way I can get it to run well without pinging.

The carb was throwing fuel in the there way too fast so I gave it a whack which must have released the float.

So it will run and idle enough for now but will need refining once I get pipes on it to hear whats going on.

And also bled the brake and got them to come up.

Still have to wire in the headlights and horn.
Get the flywheel and clutch fork then fit the box and some other small bits. Ill be cutting it close to moving time so it may still be trailered. Got about 6 weeks to go.

Spent the day slaving on the torana and got everything done I wanted too and more.

Finished the box install and hooked up the clutch.

Got the headlights wired in
console is in.

And most important IT DRIVES!!!
couldnt resist and took it around the block with it running off the manifolds haha. Still runs like shit and I think its missing a lot.

Clutch will need better adjusting. Will wait till I get engine pipes on it so I can work out why its running like crap.

  get some pipes on it, at least you won't get tooo many complaints from the neighbors (and others),and it will help in being able to nut out a few teething problems.

Just something that may or may not be worth a mention ?....sometimes when V8's were lifted out of the car the dizzy was not removed because the bolt is such a pleasurable thing to get to, this resulted in the dizzy housing/shaft  getting a bit out whack, hard to spot, resulted in all sorts of

fun??

Don't know if it's been suggested but have you checked the dissy cap for cracks and the posts inside are clean (no white chalky stuff on them).
