A9X and L34 Wheels

I have had them up before on other threads but not as a separate topic.
These rims look the part but have had the centre taken out and had almost 1/2 an inch machined off the centre band and then have been welded back in to a std GTS rim to an offset the same as an L34 or A9X.
I have put them together with a original L34 rim I have, to help show the difference.
The rim on the L34 has a 1 inch spacing on the centre band same as a GTS, where as the machined one is less than 1/2 an inch wide.
The original also has a wider flat section in the centre of the rim to allow for the different offset.
The difference from the front view is hardly noticeable.
Some one may try to pass them off as genuine rims and may take advantage of any body who was not aware of their origin.
This is the Machined rim

Would l be right in saying the copies dont have "231 7 22" stamped near the valve? Is this number unique to the A9X rims or was it stamped into the GTS and L34 rims too?
Cheers

Thanks Red, good to know. l guess that makes the counterfeiters job a bit easier in the case of the L34's.L34 rims don't have a number near the valve stem.

I have more pics of a genuine A9X wheel to show the stampings( not my wheel by the way, still searching).

I think this is 6JJ X 14 bit hard to read.

Maybe Red can tell if this is a correct stamping for A9X or not.
This rim is definitely a std GTS rim. Maybe they have been stamped before being painted.
These wheels were passed off as genuine once before and fortunately for me I had the L34 rims to compare them to.
These wheels are no longer in my possession and wanted to warn others that they are out there somewhere. Hopefully not to be sold as genuine!
Any wheel company can do the same job as these for around $800 a set. Could be an option for some one looking for a set.
Mind you the company that were selling these were not aware they were copies.
Don't know who had them done up originally.
I was led to believe the 7 is for 1977 and the 256 is a day stamp. The 256th day of the year when they were made perhaps ? Don't know what the 22 means. There's another one for Red!

Counterfeits is a good way of describing these rims. Its exactly what they are. I didn't really give it much thought before posting this thread that some one may get info that was not intended for them and may in future be used for more detailed counterfeits. Is it possible to edit the photos out ?

Good on you Slr5640 for sharing that valuable piece of information and pics but its just getting to risky to post that sort of information. Good presence of mind to think like a "copy-cat"
Perhaps we need to give some thought as to who we allow onto this site.
My opinion is that we ban all "browsers" and only allow members. Lets face it, we have over 1200 members and most of them are due to word of mouth. My point is that its a good site and worth joining, do we really what "window shoppers"? There is some super sensitive information on here that could make it easier for thieves to locate our cars.
Am I being too cautious, am I the only one????????
Getting back to the point ( JD + coke = verbal diarrhoea ), well done Tiny.

Even though i dont own anything "genuine" of major value ( yeah ok.. the monaro IS a GTS, and the SLR is and SLR.. but nothing like your beasts!) I too am very worried about handing the low lives of this world a free ride through trying to help other good people!!
THe thoughts of a member's only section has been raised... and were currently looking into various options.
For now i think vigilance is your best friend, Feel free to use the PM system to share information amongst people you know/trust.
Cheers guys, We all try and do what we can not onloy for the site, the members but also for torana owners too!

I like the PM alternative but it can be too impersonal and too slow.
The Members Only Forum sounds awesome, bring it on..
