Just go HSR Mikunis they work very nicely, very good throttle response.
3x 48mm?
or 6x 40mm if you've got a 12 port?

From a previous post:
A few things to think about if you're going to run HSRs. First, these things flow much more than conventional carbs of a similar size so it'll be easy to overdo it. At the "normal" 4 barrel rating of 1.5"hg the HSR42 flows about 300cfm, the 45 about 333cfm and the 48 about 380 cfm. At 28" water this is about 327, 365 and 415 cfm respectively
But yeah, for a maximum effort engine I'd go for the HSRs over anything else - including injection.
Edit: If we're gonna get into this we should follow Ned's suggestion and start a new thread.

3x42mm on a 9 port. My engine is only a 230hp baby so they are enough, makes for a better steet engine.

Its either being sold or getting an engine transplant lol, i've had all i can take with the v8's, stupid thing keeps breaking, cant handle the good old holden six footwork....
I've got all the marine bits for a holden red 6 in the shed as I'm sure loads of folks have since no one uses them anymore.
I was one of the last running a red 6 on our lake. Damn thing was great to learn to ski with but the serious lack of power made the boat far too restrictive. Nice fantasy to upgrade to a 6, and would probably be fine for a social cruise only boat, but for a ski boat....not at all a good option.

Lol, mate, mild turbo setup with a blow through carb, shit i have laying around the shed, will make more hp and torque than the 308 in there currently could ever dream of with reliability upped 10 fold.
I might be interested in some of the marinizing gear.
But, I never said anything about a holden six, that was OJ, i was thinking a barra engine or a 1gr with a jet unit....
Cheers.

frOck yeah! XR6T with about 25psi. I'd love to see that.

Or a 1gr.....They respond well to boost to
With a 1gr i could keep some rear seats....

Remember that guy that ran a 1FZ-FE in an old Crown? He ran about 25lb on a basically stock bottom end for low 10s...

Typical toyota
THe only reasons the 1GR would be appealing is how short it is. And the fact that for a modern engine there ludicrously torquey down low, the on in my Hilux drags the car trailer around way better than my old turbo diesel cruiser ever did.
Cheers.

Yeah..... Why would you use a poor old red six. Only an idiot would persist in trying to make one of those things pull a skier out of the water
....and beating most of the smallblock jockeys in the process.

The modern engines will crap on the older stuff from a great height. If you want to keep some old skool cool, will be keeping it relatively low stressed, and don't want an 8... how about a 265 hemi?

Trouble with that Ned is he wants something short for rear seat room. I think the only really sensible solution is a complete front wheel drive engine/transaxle across the stern, with a paddle wheel at the end of each axle. This way you get to keep the rear seats plus you have a modern powerplant coupled with olde worlde Mississippi charm....

Anyone figured out a twin cam head swap for the mighty Starfire yet ?

Why did you have to put that idea in my head? Now I want to see it happen...

Hmmm..............Big problem is how to drive the double overhead bump sticks off a gear drive?

If its anything like the ford dohc head on a holden six then thas the easy part.
Posted 29 October 2013 - 09:13 PM
Not my fault Ford kept developing there true blue aussie engine for years after Holden died in the ass (as usual) and gave up....

Is that enough proof?
Cheers.
