looks like i have to replace the heater core in the lh for a rwc
saying i need a working heater for the demister?

any tricks to this , easy job?

its a pain in the butt, will take you a couple of hours to do, is the heater connected or is it bypassed? if its connected it may have a blockage in it which means u just have to flush it.

hey woodsy
its not connected , so i rang the previous owner and he said it was leaking so he bypassed it.
he said in brisbane he didnt need one lol

think im goin to get a newy from rare spares or somwhere ? about $220

i just did this in my lx, i had the option of replacing the heater core with a two hundred dollar one or get mine recored for 80 bucks and my radiator bloke recons it will work twice as good as any factory job it is a totally different core than the factory one and he tells me that they are way more efficient. while you are at it you can rebuild the heater box .just ask the radiator guy to get some of the foam tape that goes around the edge of the heater core and get some foam from the motor trimmers and replace all the foam on the vent doors .Takes a bit of time and patience but its better to do it right now than regret it later.

Pull it out and take it to a radiator shop or two for a quote for a reco.

i was told the same thing.the repo ones are more efficent.

i got my repo one pressure tested before i fitted it.

i also had my heater box vents retrimed as sugested

droped the core off today and get it back tomorrow $125
cheaper than rare spares 230 + postage

retrimmed?...is that new foam on heater vents?
nice idea with thye pipes...i reckon ill do that

mine were just poking through the forewall and had some foam around it

well the new heater core is in but now the next isseu
this might sound like a dumb question but where do the heater hoses go from the heater core out the firewall?
top hose and botom hose?
water pump has two outlets blocked off and thermastat has one?

I have one heater hose going to thermotstat cover outlet and the other to first water pump outlet.
However I dont have heated manifold.

Your manifold is missing the bit that pre heats it. the first hose should go to the bit that you are missing, the second goes to the bottom of the heater core (i think) and the one on the passengers side of the manifold goes to the top of the heater core.....

I think...

from memory,,,,,

maybe i should be corrected???

didnt know there was a pre heat , was just hoping i could run one hose to the thermostat and one to the water pump or both to the waterpump as it has two outlets just so i can get the rwc .

Oh, the inlet manifold preheat.
Forget about it unless you are chasing condition 1 or concourse.

found another thred on a similsr question and have hooked it up as follows
bottom hose going to waterpump and top to thermastat

seems to be doing ok , ran it for about 15min and demister is now warm(slightly but definatly not hot)
how hot should the demister get?
this isnt very hot at all but i can feel some warmth there
