And the Chev will be funner... is that a word... doesn't matter... it explains what I mean
Whats in it now ?
Igf you need to buy manifolds etc as sounds like you do... I'd rev a chev anyday
But... with the $ OK right now... do some homework on crate motors...I posted a beauty the other day at a great price... link....hmmm

I had no v8 parts to start off, and chose Chev over holden. I run a Mild-warm 383 and I'm happy.

Custom Extrators to suit torana + Twin Exhuast
Sump + pick-up to suit torana
Custom Engine mounts
More expensive gearbox + Crossmember + speedo cable
Small starter motor + longer battery cable
Radiator
Just something to think about,

So the cost of Chev v's 308 when you have nothing to start with won't be alot higher
Infact... the parts may cost slightly more but the engine will cost less
So its a balance
Forget LS1 if you have no money
It will cost you 3x+ for that
Its all custom or high priced stuff plus computer etc etc

Me personally, i could get a 308 into a torana about 1/2 the price of a chev, using mostly second hand parts but not everyone has the same level of experience.
As above, getting decent extractors and a sump to fit seem the greatest challenge.

Add in the cost for a decent diff too, All depends how you will be driving though.
I have spent about 7-8k On my Chev conversion.. and another 5k Fixing things that broke.

The VN headed 308 will cost you twice as much
And the Chev will be funner... is that a word... doesn't matter... it explains what I mean

Hi Neil, if you were to pay $15k AUD for one of these small blocks plus shipping, what do you think it would cost for the same in Aus ?? Everyone says there are problems with extractors etc. in the torana's, do you know if it the same for the HQ's ?
cheers,
Adam

That wasn't the link I was looking for... but served the purpose
I think your local supplier is buying for around the internet price
Then shipping and whacking on something for their effort
And depending on the day of the week they might not be buying at the right exchange rate
So I think a local would gouge a couple of grand extra at least just for the priveledge of buying local
I had a customer in last week.. bought a 509 ci BBC
World products brand new block , alloy heads
All world gear... flash as... pics in where did my brakes go thread
He paid $17k landed for it
Same motor he he priced up was over 30k
Thing is everyone thinks their an imorter with the dollar good
This hurts local guys cause they aren't making their profits
Hopefully they can stay in business for when the glory days dry up and we NEED to buy local again
Q's have alot more room around them and came fitted with SBC's.... so I'd think if you buy the right pipes there would be no clearance probs on them
