It's not as simple as just gluing them where they fit & hoping it all works out.
Different materials react differntly in regards to stress points. While fully welding the mounts to the tank may seem stronger, it's not the case with alluminium.
Brown Davis stitch weld a compensation plate to the side of their tanks, then the mounting brackets are welded to that. If you have a look at Litre8's tank, you will see what i mean. There are also a few more members with BD tanks in their cars. Perhaps someone will post a pic.
In the first pic: The rearward mounting plate is welded vertically, with no weld top/bottom. The problem is.... those 2 welds are sharing the full weight of the tank [with a full fuel load] & being subjected to 'shearing' forces, every time you hit a bump.
The weakest point of the welds is the start/stop. When these welds fail, that's where the cracks will start.
Alloy is more ductile than steel. When a crack starts, it may fail without notice.
I suggest you take the tank back to the welder, & ask him/her to continue those welds around the corners about 25mm. Also.... put another 25mm stitch in the centre along the bottom & top edges. Pay particular attention to the start/stops. 'Craters' in this area is not acceptable.
As the old adage goes... a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, welding is the same.
I hope this makes sence, i've tried to not get too technical.
Disclaimer: I am not a certified engineer, just a busted arse boilermaker with a little experience.

I would guess based on the lack of distortion along the welds that this tank is made from 3-5 mm sheet and therefore would not require the reinforcing plates.
