Does any body have any clues, or has heard of anybody who has successfully fitted a powerer steering rack to an LC. I am not fitting a V8 motor but willbe using a turbo 2.5 that the purests may object to, and wish to use the Nissan pump and column. Don

I've heard, but not sure the late model vs commodores etc. power steering rack with fruad laser tie rod ends will do the job...
Interesting thought Andrew. The thought of Fraud bits tends to send a shiver up my spine, but I guess they are really Mazda. I have a VS ute, so will have a squiz over the wekend at the rack..... Cheers Don.

I wouldn't think so, they don't really need it and power steering has been a difficult thing for all Toranas to datecome on guys! There must be a lot of people out there who have fitted powered racks to LC/LJs.

Seems to be a hell of a lot of silence out there. I guess I'll do my own homework. If anybody is interested, please yell out.

Or hack up and old skyline crossmember and weld the bits on.

Could you use a Nissan rack? You'd have to make a bracket up to mount it and to clear the hard lines at the back but it could all bolt onto the factory spot...
Or hack up and old skyline crossmember and weld the bits on.
The Nissan racks all seem to be rear mount. Therefore when you turn them around you need to be left hand drive.
It may be possible to actually move the mounting points on the rack, but I would prefer an easier method and start with a front mounted rack. The mounting points on the crossmember can then be modified to suit the rack.
It may be necessary to notch the member some for the steering shaft. Don

Don't turn it around, leave it facing the same way, you just need more room at the rear of the rack body to allow for the hard fluid lines. Would only be an inch, and your steering shaft should fit without notching.

why would you need power steer in a LC ?? i had a v8 in mine steering was light as.
Just because. There doesn't always have to be a reason.
Don
I haven't weighed them, but would assume the RB to be somewhat heavier, being more robust, twin cam, turbo and other stuff.

Here is a tech article on Coad's Rally car, has info on suspension geometry, bump steer and has some info on the appleton power rack that is installed.
