I have two friends with July 73 Tangerine XU-1's in WA.
One was sold new trough Kevin Dennis Motors in Victoria, but he know very little of its history, it's engine number is not even listed on the Warranty reporting Vin information. If anyone has more about this one he would like to know?
The other was sold through dealer 437 and was tuned by Ian Tate in the early days apparently.
Both of these are currently being restored and should appear from their sheds in the next 12 months or so.
Mike

When I say 'block' I mean from rocker cover to sump and fan to flywheel. It was located in a replica LJ GTR and it looked like it hadn't been touched since it was inserted (I don't know when).
Anyway before I got the car it had had the 1980s treatment done to it; 350 Chev, Saginaw (?) transmission and 9" diff. After finding all the bits needed I put it into stoarage in 1993 and it hasn't moved since. I plan to do a a full resto in a couple of years time.
I just thought I'd type a few sentences hare and come back later with a more detailed story I wrote up some years ago. Watch this space.

Hi DennisGreetings all, I'm new to this site and want to share info, and perhaps gain some, on my Tangerine 1973 XU-1. I bought it as a rolling shell (with tags) in March 1989 and spent the next few years finding all the bits and pieces I needed to complete the restoration. I even found the original JP block.

It was first registered in Vic on the 1/8/1973 and then re-registered again in Vic in 1978. There is a rumour that it spent some time in QLD.
At some point after 1978 it had a serious accident that wiped out the front left quarter (typical) and the original chassis number was lost as the whole quarter from the firewall to the right of the radiator was replaced. The chassis number change was never recorded with VicRoads and the final rego was in 1985. It's a very dodgy repair so it will have to be re-done properly. So, four years after this I bought it and have had it under dry cover ever since.
I have all the original chesnut trim except for the seats and console. I have a set of black long grain seats that came out of a 73 GTR that I'll re-cover. I also have a set of fine spline axles fitted.
Anyway, all this is while off yet. Just thought I'd put it out there and pick up some resto tips and information from this forum.
Thanks, Dennis

is your car- 8D11PCL246459J?
Well worth restoring .
A number of members have had XU1'S that you could honestly say were 'basket cases' .
These cars that you will find in Members Projects and Plans have already been restored or are currently in the restoration process .
These members have talent and true dedication in abundance for saving these cars from the brink of oblivion.
Your car should be relatively straight forward compared to these ones .

Hi DennisHi Dane, it's a 7/73 build date with chassis number BLJ26***A. Is there a connection between tangerine/chestnut cars coming from Brisbane? I ask this because mine is onviously an Adelaide car.

I took a punt to say your car was a Brisbane built car because I noticed a Preslite wiper motor instead of a Lucas,Brisbane LJs if you didn't know were renound to have Preslite motors on them. But now having another look it looks like an early model one with the longer housing or so it looks like in the pic you have posted so it may have been changed or something at one stage.
No connection with the Chestnut trim to Brisbane cars that I know of,though I haven't seen any Adelaide cars with chestnut trim until yours,(maybe plenty more)
You mentioned that you had all the original chestnut trim except for the seats and console. The console in our trim were Black and not chestnut(if you didn't know)so don't stress about that. And the seats well I know someone that had a full set of Chestnut seatcovers and door trims if you ever want tom go down that road of getting new stuff for it.Chestnut trim is pretty hard to get if you need to replace it.
Weather he still has them or not I'll have to find out,but if your interested PM me.
Cheers Dane

Or the memorable colour of Strike me Pink with 40X Black interior Mondie
Yes thats another memorable colour that suits the car well and polarises opinion!
Still kind of for sale Skap, we have moved to the UK now and the car lives with a mate so I am not too fussed on whether it sells or not. Its not advertised anywhere.
Cheers
Simon

At some stage it has been sprayed with black vinyl spray, so I am painstakingly converting it back to its original Doeskin/Chestnut interior.
