I lowered my hatch by 1.5 inches however I want to go lower again by about 1 inch more.
Am I better off getting the current springs(pedders)reset, or buy some new ones at 2.5 inches lower than standard? I also still have the original springs so could even get them reset?
Does anyone know how much re-setting costs? and will the pedders shocks I'm currently running be suitable, or will I need to buy lower ones again?

Hithere.

I recently reset the front springs on my hatch. I did it to get the heights to the exact specs I wanted. By re-setting them 5mm lower it will reduce the centre of hub to top of wheel arch measurement by 10mm. By changing springs you don't know what you are going to get because of the undue wear already in the front end of the car. Torana's are renowned for sagging in the towers. So my advise is to use your existing springs, measure how much at the wheel to guard you would like to reduce the ride height and then use my calculation of 5mm = 10mm lower to achieve your desired ride height.

I hope this makes sense. By the way it cost me $77 to have both of them reset which included freight

Cheers, Gerry.

Thanks Resslur! some good info there.

Next question - am I better off getting the lowered pedder springs reset 1 inch lower - or the original springs I have sitting in the garage 2.5 inches lower?

I think no matter what, a new set of shocks will be the go for better ride/handling. From reading other threads, pedders shocks just don't compare with others on the market.

if you can afford them get a set of KONI or Bilestien shocks thet are the best on the market. Pedders and monroe and alike are ok if your on a budget but they dont last .ive seen pedders ones fail within 12 months.

spring restting usally isnt cheap, better off getting a new set, as reset ones do and will sag over time, alot quicker than a new set

Interesting you say that. I spoke with the King Spring's manufacturer directly and he told me that by resetting them such a small amount wouldn't impact on the fuction or operation of the spring at all. Mine were already King Springs too. Will have to wait and see I guess.

it wont affect the operation as such, its more the sagging, you have to remember they are being heated up to do it and if they arent tempered right they can sag real quick,

i am not disagreeing with you but its not as bad as you may think .we do re-seting at work and the area that is heated is only 1 inch long in order to drop each coil .We have at times dropped standard coils 3-4 inches and they are still in those cars today, however i personally would rather get ones that are excactly the right hieght or that only needs slight reseting .

Hi all
Gerry, I finally had my front springs pulled out today to have this done. You sent yours off to King Springs to get done? Were you happy with the result? If so, which King Springs store did you deal with, so I can give them a call?
Am sending them one spring, to have it stretched 5mm. This should have it sitting nice and even!
NB: Mine are Lovells, not King Springs, but I trust that it makes no difference at all. As you say, the problem stems from the car itself, not the springs in the first place.

Cheers, H

Hi Harve.

I took mine into my mate who runs a suspension store. They are a King Spring agent. You would have to talk to your local contact mate. Don't know if manufacturers like doing other brands though. Did you see the pictures of the hatch I sent you?

Gerry.
