Obviously many on here have sheds. What really frustrates me is DUST! I hate the stuff. Try cleaning the shed one week and the next week there is dust again.
Has anyone tried to make their shed dust proof? and if so what did you do? was it a steel or brick shed? roller doors or other etc?

I have a steel shed. I didn't get a roller door because of the gap up the top where it rolls. So I made solid swing doors and I have got rubber strips glued to the edges to stop dusty air flow past the edges.

I have got spray expanda foam and squirted under all the corrugations in the roof steel near the gutters and ridge cap.

Ive tried screwing some of the corners in tighter to seal better with extra nuts and bolts.

Ive cemented around the edges of the tin, to seal the bottoms off and create a footpath in the process.

But I still get dust. Admittedly its a lot better now but I'd rather there was none.

you wont stop it all.

Dust particles are generally so fine they will get around anything, plus, you have to open the door sometime! when you do, the dust comes in with the air and lingers, so when you close the door and there is no breeze, it simply settles on everything.

your clothes, the carpet and seats in the car, any mats or seats in the shed etc all have dust in them, so you wont ever stop it completely.

You could always try wetting the floor down all the time and running extraction fans+filters (turn it into a spray booth! :P )

^ He is right.

You cannot stop dust!

But, try to organise the shed so that you can hose down the walls and floor every now and then.

Dust in your shed usually means you need to use it more. :P

Yeah I find it very difficult to keep dust out of the areas where my cars are stored. But I think not having walls might have something to do with that :P

The only way to stop it out there (I grew up out that way) is to pressurise the shed....bathroom ventilation fan mounted in the wall...but it has to draw thru a filter...1/4 inch think piece of foam will do it. The tighter you seal the shed the better.

Ok thanks everyone.
I was thinking of painting the floor, I think that would make it a bit easier to keep clean. Might look further into that.

I think i might need to do more with the expanding foam perhaps, seal off other areas where dust can come through.

Also some pink bats behind gyprock screwed to the walls may help too.

They might foil insulate it for you ,should be plenty of that left over now . I know a bloke insulated and duck taped , his garden shed walls and roof, for an office it was great inside.
