:spoton: :spoton: HAHAHA old johno , if the flywheel fell off just short of 9000 rpm , l wonder if the driver still has his ankles ? or his knees even lol

Jeez you're a bloody sceptical lot. I've managed to get a hold of the dyno sheet and you can clearly see where the harmonics start to set in..

Gee, after all these years I did not realise that the blue/black crank is not fully counterbalanced like the RB cranks. Those RB motors are so smooth.

I have a Massey Ferguson Balancer setup for a 202 bought years ago but never used. Sorry cant give pictures as I have lost my camera but anyone in Perth is welcome to come around if interested. Should be worth $150 and sorry, I am not posting, only pickup.

What exactly Heath??

I assume Greg ment that half grout filling the block will help stop the flywheels from coming off, not that it fixes the inherent problems of the crank design.....

If you mean the balancer...Yeah well i cant really see what thats gonna fix either but as i said with the torque converter thing it might also band aid the problem enough to work.

Cheers.

The power that harmonic is stealing is the frOcking problem, not the flywheel falling off

If you want to stop the flywheel falling off, stop tightening small hex'd nuts up against material that is (relatively) soft. Make up a single donut type washer out of something HARD like chromoly, and get some bolts that have a decent contact area (massive hex), and it'll hold the two dowels you should have in too.

Thats not a bad idea, after you build a standard cranked engine that can rev past 7000 try it for me :D.

Or i might try it first...

Cheers.

i disagree, it might help but its not the solution, i reckon its a waste of time.
how many sbc's shake flywheels? i beleive the problem is elsewhere.

also, yella terra flywheels arent soft.

i will keep everyone posted about this cosworth groove i talked about, 10+ people have said it fixed their flywheel problem, so heres hoping. but if not, crank is getting crack tested.

The solution is to get rid of the harmonics so you don't need to hold the flywheel on better!

And Yella Terra flywheels might not be soft but they're softer than some case hardened chromoly mate

I agree that using a hard plate is good practice Heath. Most if not all of the engines I work on (mining/construction diesels) use such a thing; it's called a scuff plate and yes it's hard. Even so, the scuff plate and the bolts are replaced every time the flywheel is removed.

I have done a deal with the Massey Balancer.

Why I didn't want to post. I would rather have a chat with someone face to face for an hour for 150 than spend time packaging and posting which will prob take 45min by the time I go to the post office. The extra the buyer paid will cover lost time.

Whoever bought that balancer, please speak up? I think it would be quite interesting to see photos of it before and after it is re-installed on a vehicle.
