I had a look at drive by wire throttle setups but it looked too tecko.
if i was that concerned about minimalism i would have hidden the brake booster and master as well.
I am pretty happy with the look.

I think it looks good with some stuff out to be seen. I went the same way on mine...hid some things, but kept enough out in view to still make it look "mechanical" .....not just something static. If that makes any sense? lol

Back to work tomorrow so here's an update of what i've done the last few days.
Big news is i started the engine and ran in the cam. Really happy with how it went, started first try!
Apart from that i have been doing a heap of little fiddly jobs, bled the brakes (what a nightmare with new calipers, lines etc), fitted up the battery and battery leads, started mucking around with the electrics like the lights tryiing to get them to all work etc......
Not many photos except of the handbrake install, i decided to use the skyline handbrake setup from the aborted skyline diff. It has a centre mounted brake lever which i prefer over the foot operated one. Strange, but for years the only cars i had ever seen with foot operated park brakes were LH-LX toranas, now heaps of cars, toyota camry, hyundai's etc seem to be getting them.

Sweet work with the handbrake, again the engine bay looks tops, I can now really appreciate the smoothed bay look its a huge job for something that looks so simple to be done.

When's it's first drive happening??

Derrin the hatch is looking excellent! Love a smooth engine bay too!!

Just a thought going back to the accelerator cable, maybe you could do something like this?

I know it looks very twisted but it works perfectly and is mostly hidden. Just a thought.

Keep up the good work!

Had a little milestone this week, got my tailshaft, 3" heavy wall. Had a bit of an issue fitting it, the yoke was bl..dy tight to get into the box. I checked the size with a micrometer, counted the number of splines, a couple of times!! Got it to fit eventually. Hopefully it will wear out a bit before i have to pull it out again.

Posted Image

So i got to take it for a little run around my block.

This afternoon Dad come around and we fitted the doors. Had to hang one of the guards on for a look as well.

In the meantime i have been trying to get the wiring and the lights sorted. I have everything working except for the RHS blinkers and the horn. I hate electrics!!!!!!!
The alternator isn't charging, the clutch slave cylinder has decided to leak and the brakes still need more bleeding. AAHHHHH The joy of doing up an old car.

Thats bloody awesome. The attention to detail you've paid underneath and throughout this car should make it a real standout! You must be getting pretty excited now.

I've been at work for 5 days, 12hr shifts with 1 hour travel each end don't leave much Torana time, especially with a family.
Anyway, today i solved a couple of wiring issues, got the RH blinkers to work and also the horn.
Went to the wreckers and got another brake master cylinder, the other one leaked and the resevoir was cracked. So i swaped them over. I also picked up a clutch slave cylinder.
This afternoon i fitted the guards and nosecone properly so we can look at painting the stripes.

Not real happy with the ride height at the moment. Hopefully it will settle down. I have a suspicion that the front springs aren't seated properly i will add that job to the whiteboard in my shed.

Does look a little on the higher side, although glass and all the interior plus bonnet and bumpers has to add a bit of weight to bring it down

Looks great Derrin - thanks for the update on your SUV Torrie!!! :)
What diameter are those wheels again?
Boy they will fill the wheel arches right up.
And you said something about painting stripes - what sort of stripes are you doing?
Cheers, TB

Wheels are 18 inch 7 and 8 inch wide.
Stripes will be something a little different than the norm. All will be revealed in a couple of weeks.

Just needs a bullbar and some chrome sidesteps..but being a hatch you will probably wanna paint em the same color as the body. :stirpot:

The bullbar and steps might help weigh it down a little.

I know, i work with Barman and i have tried to make mine as different as possible otherwise people will talk about us.
I originally planned the overall look/theme of mine a couple of years before i met him.

Pssst..... don't tell anyone but we are talking about you :D

But seriously, I reckon your hatch is looking really good. Once its back together then get it lowered to suit.
