Small update, finished stripping the drivers rear quarter today, no old bog to be found, no rust and only a couple of small dents.

Go you good thing. How great is that you lucky bugger!
I am jealous as I wish I could say the same about mine.
So any closer to firming up a date for colour going on?
Cheers, TB

Realistically it won't be painted until after Christmas, Dad is a real perfectionist and i know he will re-do some areas before he paints it. At least at the moment it's all the same colour. Ha Ha Ha!

It's been raining all day here so i had some time to do a little on the car.
Test fitted the drivers door.

Fitted the front spoiler, doesn't fit too bad.

Posted Image

Started smoothing out the drivers rear quarter, weather forecast looks good for some more work tomorrow.

Dad came around yeterday and helped me trial fit the bonnet. Luckily we tried it before the paint went on, we found that it had a significand bow from front to rear. When closed the edge didn't match the profile of the top of the front guards, it was arched up in the middle by about 10mm. Out came the trusty block of wool and the 2lb hammer. Within 10 minuted he had it all sweet. He scares me sometimes when he asks for the biggest hammer i have got!

Posted Image

I have also stripped the chrome off and repaired the front bumper bar. (i'm sure i will cop some flack from the chrome bumper brigade but it's my car and i want painted bumpers)

It is coming together beautifully - bloody well done to you and your Dad.
And yep, I'm with Paul; go the painted bumpers - going to fit over-riders?
That front spoiler looks good - I have found mine might be a bit low but can't remedy it because its height is set by where it needs to link to my front flares.
When is it coming off the rotisserie at the rear?
Finally, it looks great - please keep the updates coming.
Cheers, TB

Thanks for the comments.
No overriders as the bar are rubberless ones.
The rotisserie will be going on again soon as i need to flip the car upside down to spray the underneath and the wheel arches with body deadener.

Havent done much but yours and a couple of the other hatch threads in here give me the motivation to get into it.
Well done mate, keep it up.

Been a little busy doing other projects over the past couple of weeks so i heven't done a whole heap on the car.
Stripped and primed the radiator support panel.

Posted Image

Also spent a bit of time on the engine bay again as i wasn't completely happy with it after my first go at smoothing it out.
Also drilled holes in the firewall for the wiring to pass through.Did one more hole than i thought i would need, just in case. 50mm gromets will fit in these.

It doen't look a whole lot different in the pictures but it is heaps smoother and will look better in paint than it was.

Dad came around yesterday and had a good look at my work (quality inspection!!)
Eveything was fine which i was really pleased about (sick of panel beating!!)
I've got the go-ahead to start prepping for paint (yay!!)
Painted the top of the dash today and while i was at it i also squirted some black on the rest of the inside and inside the plenum, i know you will never see most of it but i just wanted to tidy it up a bit.

Off to the coast for a few days, next weekend i will try and do under the floor and the wheel arches with underbody sealer then i can finally take the car off the rotissary.
Then it's hi-build primer and endless wet rubbing.

Great to see your efforts passed QC - seems your Dad is a stickler ad so his tick of approval must be well earned and a great yardstick for where your build is at.

Really looking forward to seeing some paint on but understand it is a while away yet - that wet rubbing is a bugger - perfect time to rob a bank given you'll have no discernable fingerprints - my mate Dave who the steered my body resto suggested to me an apparently long-held painter's point of view that one's bride/girlfriend appreciates the wet rub period - I'd best leave it at that...

Please keep the updates coming - cheers, TB

Thanks TB, Dad used to have his own shop in town and he was really well regarded.
Even though he hasn't done paint and panel work professionally for about 15 years he will be worried that peoplewho know us will think the work was his.
At least the finished product will be excellent, if left to my own devices the car would look ok but wouldn't be to the quality that it should be.

Considering dirtbag uses bog, I'd say everyone does.

Wouldn't worry about it fella's.
TerrA LX made his comment over a month ago and Derrin clearly didn't feel the need to respond - rose above it and all.

Derrin,
Not wanting to do the old 'my dog's blacker than your dog' tale, but I get exactly where you are coming from regarding your Dad's standards and his concern for what folks will say.  Dave who did my car was exactly the same and was concerned what folks would say/think of his work.  I kept trying to remind him we were making a nice car and not a show car but gave up after a while.  And so yep, I feel your pain but as you have so readily identified, the car is better for it - something you both can be proud about.

Is it off the rotisserie yet?

Cheers, TB

Of course we all use it, even holden did at the factory but my comment was less of an attack and more of a tip, the area's full of bog on the R/H quarter are easily accessable and there does not appear to be a need for so much filler. No offence intended.

Now back to the pissing comp, start your own thread if you feel the need.

Thanks for the comments TB,
Trying hard not to comment about the use of bog,
I would like to know how you gauge the thickness of bog from a photo? (that's the last comment i will make on that subject)
No the car is still on the rotisserie, i hope to apply the body deadener this weekend and then the shell can be taken out (finally!!)
Cheers.

It is worth putting the body deadener on a bit thicker at the top of the guards to prevent damage if a stone is flicked up off the tyre.

I have seen the paintwork damaged on both steel and fibreglass guards.
