Well she's been riding around in my sig pic for ages and finally enough has been achieved to warrant starting a project thread...

We brought her as a roller a bit over two years ago

but she got halted before she really got started when I decided to up and sell our house and buy one without a suitable shed so she had to get put back together again and stored until a new shed was built. About 8 months ago we got her set back up again to make another start

Posted Image

Plenty of rust to be dealt with so started with the smaller jobs and working the way around her...

This didn't help the state she was in along that sill

Posted Image

at some stage in her life someone had stuck a repair straight over some damage and/or rust and over the drain holes :fool:

I didn't realise you'd been working on this one. Didn't realise it was quite so rusty either! Repairs look top notch - musta been busy!

Cheers TerrA LX and 76lxhatch

Been just plodding along on her for a while Heath photos have been getting stuck up on my facebook as anything has happened just didn't bother starting a thread for her until now being as it was slow progress and happening in dribs and drabs with big breaks in progress. The pic in my sig is probably deceiving makes her look quite good but yeah she had plenty of rusty areas we knew about right from the get go and as they do there was plenty more hiding under the panels

almost like she was frowning at us when we got her up on the rotisserie the first time and got a good look under her....

Posted Image

doors were pretty average one had corner rusted clean off

Posted Image

and the other one wasn't great either so being as some good ones came up we grabbed them saved us having to muck around fixing the ones off her...

Posted Image

yet radiator support was fine and we expected the floor pans would have been shot but they were actually fairly good only needed one small patch on drivers side one...

Other than that there's some of the normal spots - hatch channel is pretty stuffed, bit of work to be done to tail light surround and hatch hinges are knackered too. C pillars don't appear to have much rust but have a had a dodgey looking repair done at some stage so they will still need looking at.

Nothing is set in stone but... she was a 253 but will be a 308 (if we can find a decent one that isn't going to break the bank) nothing overly worked as I plan on driving her most :) but am craving a step up in power from the LH, other half wants to go something fuel injected but I'm standing firm on not going that way

thinking of going with a green (she's not getting crazy paint like the LH  )I have always been partial to hatches in white but there's already at last three white ones in the club so I think white's about covered for quota already....

no flairs that one is set in stone, possibly just a front spoiler maybe dunno not sure yet....

Nice work Kel, about time you started a thread. Brads got it ticking over pretty well now, it's looking good, them rear quarter aren't a nice job to do. Do you think the shed is big enough, Not sure you have enough room to spin it around on the rotissery.

Sorry Les bit slow replying hadn't checked in for a bit... lol don't start on the shed he wasn't real impressed about the replacement shed here not being as big as the one at the old house... not sure there will be room to spin anything any more once this one's done apparently a parts storage floor is about to start appearing over that bay... The rear quarters I think have just been superseded in fun level by the current task at hand wait till you see the pics of that I'll try and get them chucked up on my facebook soon

Got a 308 tucked away for her now and need to get in and do a decent update fair bit more rust repair been done since last lot of photos I put up...

Great progress shots and quality work. Good job!

Question..... My recent SL/R project purchase has had the above mod. How come you did this one? I don't understand why people do this. Just for looks / clean lines?

It helps aesthetically to clean the rails up a bit, but also provides and extra inch or so of width to the engine bay, which is nice for spark plug changes and exhaust gasket issues, especially with small blocks and GenIII's.

If the whole bay gets smoothed as well as the rails trimmed it looks really good in my opinion.

You're doing a great job on this hatch. I really enjoy seeing the updates. Keep them coming!!!!!

bloody hell dirt bag that coming from you having seen your work I'll be telling him is a huge compliment... there's more updates sitting in the computer but I've kinda been waiting for each step to be finished so I can add them as before and after comparison shots but things seem to have slowed a bit at the mo :dontknow: so my after shots aren't rolling in

notna the reasons are exactly as per what dirtbag said were the main ones for us = looks neater and the one he really wanted to do it for was more room when changing spark plugs

TJ308 and Barman cheers

Kush origionally the other one was needed but I think he's ended up just repairing that side but was keeping it at least for as a spare but if minds change again I'll be sure to let you know he's keen to cut the rest of that shell up soon so will check again when that's going on... what about the one that came out I know it's got rust holes in it but if you can make them up would it be any good still as a template? I can have a dig through the scraps and see if it's still there if you think it would be
