Hi all.

I'm in the process of trying to get the tacho on my SLR instrument cluster working. As my car is EFI, the ECU sends the signal to the tacho, however this doesn't work on the old school magnetic tacho. To get the SLR tacho working, i've been told i need a voltage compensater to convert the signal sent by the ECU so it can power up the SLR cluster tacho. I tried running the wire to the - on the coil as per original but this didn't work either. Can anyone confirm this & if so, point me in the direction of where i can obtain one of these compensaters? My local auto parts store couldn't help. Thanks

To get my VDO tacho working with the LS2 E40 ECU I had to use a pull up resistor. A pull up resistor is a resistor wired between a 12 v +ve source and the tacho signal wire to boost the voltage of the signal from the ECU.

I do not know what exactly you will need for the SL/R tacho and your ECU however I can recommend that you call Sideshow Performance Wiring. I called then to purchase a tacho booster for the LS2, they told me with my setup all I will need is the 50 cent resistor.

Yes I had a similar issue with the tacho on my SLR dash with a EFI V6. The tacho was very jumpy up and down. But fixed it self when the head lights or maybe high beams were on. A local instrument place fitted a resistor on the ground from the tacho connection point I think.

Fixed it staright away.
