these for a mate in melb..photo buckets #@$^%& it.
So is my mate just better off taking the clips off and
Sikaflexing them on..what he's saying hes tried the
clips both ways, one way just wont hold to the frame
and the other way holds the frame but not the rubbers.
Also mentioned they dont fit the frame and when he
pushes the rubbers it bends the ends.hes going to show
some pics tomorrow..

Trim to fit perfect, add sikaflex to back of strip, put rubber in, put up window then get washing line wooden pegs pull them in half use between window and strip leave over night to dry.

Also having huge dramas with fitting external doorstrips to LJ coupe windows, do I just chuck clips in bin and use sixaflex like john mentioned above? Just thought I'd check before racing down to bunnings tmrw, also is this sikaflex to get? (Sika 290ml Black Sikaflex-111 Stick and Seal Construction Adhesive)
Cheers in advance paul.

Hi Paul, I don't worry too much about the brand, just make sure it's a polyurethane. I tried the clips on LJ and gave up and used polyurethane. It's also good for filling those little bits on the flip window frame.

never going to work if you are trying to fit the clips like you have this one shown on the weather strip.
The longest leg of the clip goes on the other side of the weather strip, facing the window.

Marty, Dave, thanks for that, really appreciate it. Dave: I agree, this is what rares supplied in packaging with weatherstrip and are as useless as ashtray on a motorbike.

No i tried installing them the correct way and simply pushed it on this way for photo. The bottom of "U" shape in clip is not wide enough for weatherstrip and metal strip on door, barely wide enough for strip alone. Could easily make my own clips up i suppose but might be easier to stick on with Sikaflex. Why is polyurethane important, is that for flexibilty/paintable/easy to remove? Now if only i was allowed to leave the house, might be a job that has to wait after house arrest in melb finishes in a few weeks.

Using those clips will likely scratch through the paint leaving it exposed to moisture and therefore rust. I'd use sikaflex. I've got the original clips for my car but won't use them for that reason.
Scratch what paint? The only paint they could scratch cannot even be seen. It is the back side of the flange the weatherstrip mates up to. About the only paint that would be on that area would be any overspray that might have crept up in there during the painting process and it will already be scratched from the the original clips.

OK, did you make up and use the clip installing tool that GMH recommend using. I found it was pretty much impossible to install the clips without it.

I think that you need to post up a photo of the tool Dave, I'm certainly going to have to make 1 for the lc & mine ect.

My point is why increase the opportunities for rust to start.

Sikaflex is a brand not a product. Polyurethane sticks like shit and remains a bit flexible and can be painted over.

James I appreciate where you are coming from. Rust is the enemy, however in the scheme of things I believe major rusting of that metal flange that could be attributed directly to the two tiny little barbs on each of those clips is extremely low if not zero to none.
I wouldn't use sikaflex or equivalent to adhere the weatherstrips on as they would be a cnut to ever get them off if you needed to, but that's just me.
Scratch a lot more paint cutting them off with a knife.

weatherstrip dummied up on a HB door skin. The strip is not sitting down as far as it should and the weatherstrip should not protrude down past the metal flange it mates to when it is correctly positioned

I bent this up out of a piece of aluminium.
Using the right sort of clips for the job will make it easier.
Have successfully done 3 cars using this tool and clips without the need of any type of adhesive.
