i have a worked black 202 in my lc torana fitted with a 350 holley.
i know with modern efi styled motors air box size makes a diffence to performance, is it the same with a carb style motor with the air filters.
eg. am i better off going for a larger diameter, slim style air filter or a smaller diameter, taller style of filter or is it just basically cosmetic.

cheers Rick

You are better off with a large diameter TALL air filter.

^^^ agreed years ago I saw someone spent a bit of time playing on a dyno and found that a set of mini tumpets fitted to the top of the carb inside a large 4inch tall airfilter added horse power

so what i should do is find the largest od filter housing for my holley that i can that will clear the rocker cover (found out that 14" fouls on rocker cover) and then get the tallest filter that i can find that will fit under the bonnet.
can any one tell me who would be the best people to contact to get something along these lines.

The majority of air flow into a carb comes in around the circumference of the opening, not straight down the hole. This is why bellmouths with a big radius work so well, and it's also why aircleaners with a smoothly profiled base work well. Eg. the Moroso low profile cleaners, and K&N's stub stack (IMO the one and only half decent product from K&N). It's also why those filters that have filter media across the top (where the lid normally is) often don't flow any better and sometimes worse than a normal filter. Realistically though, a 350 equipped 202 isn't going to need a massive flow capacity so something like an 11-1/2" x 2-3/8" Moroso or similar will have plenty of capacity.
One more thing; if you want your engine to go well and last a long time (as opposed to just going well) then you must use a paper element.
Nothing else - oiled cotton, foam, chicken wire etc. - will filter as well, regardless of what the ads say...

The revs will dictate how much air the car needs, the carb will have some influence but it won't make the motor bigger :P

The air filter rodomo showed is off a grey motor I believe.

Yes, an oil bath air cleaner.
FX-FJ (and others?) but going by the battery position, that one would be FX-FJ.

When did Holden first use a paper element?
FB? :dontknow: I forget?
