Why I say that is for the bulk of the time you could order an A9X you couldn't order an SLR5000 or an SS with 5 litre unless it was an A9X.
That's not right. There were plenty of SS's and SL/R 5000's around at the same time as A9X's. (not to mention my 77 LX SL 5.0L T Bar auto)
Wow there were 5.0L SL's?? i thought the SL only ever came optioned with a 202 6 cyl and 253 V8..learn something new everyday.

In those days you could order almost any option you desired. It usually meant you had to wait for it to come off the production line though.

^ i can certainly agree with that !
So the L34 was rated as a Lousy 3 or 4 out of 10 ;P (considering the "precious" drive train)
Lets not go the XU1 then.

Many coupes were not A9X's most were SL's, etc.
But I think you meant to say you thought all A9X's were coupes?
They built more sedan A9X's than coupes, a coupe won Bathurst and I guess this is why some people think all A9X's were coupes.

SL (sedan) Super Luxury
SL (hatch) Sports luxury
SS Super Sports
A9X, it's a simple option code available ONLY on the SLR5000 and SS 5000 meaning performance package.
A9X was officially an option, not a new model, but in effect, it was really a seperate model. Once the A9X option was released at the end of August 1977, the SS5000 and SLR5000 in manual ceased to exist as an option, you could only buy the A9X version. Having said that, a very small number of SLR5000 manuals were made after the end of August. To add to that, you could only buy the 5litre engine in the sports models, SS and SLR, however, again a very small number of SL hatches were made with the 5litre engine from the factory.
Steven, I think rodomos joke went over your head there, he's refering to the usual experts who's mate of a mate owned brocks A9X that was raced at Bathurst and Brocky delivered iot to his front door complete with a packet of Marlboro and a carton of VB, but what most dont know is it was really a turbo six thats why he really won, oh and it was on NOS too. I'm sure you know what I mean.
