How do i get a shiny paint finish

looks to me like your not putting it down wet enough,back the air off a bit and open the needle up a tad and go a bit slower.

rub it back with 800
do another 2 or 3 coats
rerub with 800 then clear coat or do as matt (lxss) says

Are we talking acrylic? And make sure your thinner ratios are good; more important in final coats than primer, base coats, etc.

I always thought the engine bay was a satin not a gloss

you should be using 1.8mm for acyrlic
otherwise it would show the same symtoms as what's described

I will take all ur tips on board and im going to try and paint this weekend so ill post my pictures when finished thank for the help guys
