Have seen a set of Sprintmaster style mag wheels. They have self locating wheel nuts that go right into the base of the mags, not fastening on the top like the CSA wheel nuts. These mags have no castings/dating or id markings on them like the Globe Sprintmaster or CSA copies. Could they be Rallymaster wheels, like I have read about that were used on early LC Rally cars?

The very first Sprintmasters weren't date coded.
The Rallymaster wheels have a deeper offset to the Sprintmasters.
Aldo or Brad may care to help with some pics.
Cheers,

If they are genuine rallymaster what date code period would suit a LC?

Hi im sorry it took so long to put the photos of a 73 sprintmaster mag and the rally master mag
if u put them side by side on a torana they would be very hard to pick until u actually see the difference for yourself
the 1st pic is a 73 sprint master
the 2nd pick is the rally master
the 3rd pic is the rally master with the square edge the letter H stamped in no date numbers
the 4th pic is the 73 sprint master self locater
the 5th pic is the rally master which measures 116 mil approx the difference in off set is 13 mil
the 6th pic is the 73 sprint master mag which measures 129 mil approx
the 7th pic isthe 73 sprint master mag and it measures 37 mil approx
the 8th pic is the rally master mag which measures 50 mil approx
and the 9th and the 10th pics are just to see the differences between the 2 mags
ive put the tape measure on the 2 mags for every one to see
the photos will show that there is a sizible difference in the off set between the 2 mags
i hope this helps any one that was interested

regards aldo

Hello,
is it possible that the deeper dish wheels were used at a later date ( 1973 - 4 ) instead of having to use a stack of spacers and problems that would arrise from those. wouldn't the later wheel nut type be an indication they could be 1973 - 4 ?
I think it was the overall track that had to be maintained, don't think it mattered how they got there?
Does the offset difference match up to the 1973 spacer stack thickness?

I have a couple of the deeper offset ones here, but they are 14" and have a different shape rim edge, I assumed they were from a HK - T- G, perhaps they are 1973 wheels afterall.
Contrary to some interertations of the rules, they were permitted to race with 14" wheels, and HK- T - G front brakes as they had the same pad surface area.

Mike

I have a set of 4 of 13x6 RallyMasters on my UC. Unlike the RallyMasters in the above photographs, mine have a rough cast natural alloy finish (rim is machined and polished) instead of the machined spokes and black paint trim, but like the one in the photographs, they are not self locating. In the early 80s, I painted the spokes and caps with black engine enamel, but a bit of paint stripper will take that off easily.

The rough cast RallyMasters are the wheels you'll usually find on a HDT rally prepared LC XU-1, and I think they were also used on the supercharged LC GTR that Brock used to rallycross.

I got my RallyMasters back in 1974 at a sale of flood damaged wheels after the 1974 Brisbane floods. They had piles of them @ $35 each in water damaged boxes. In each box was also a set of wheel nuts and a centre cap stamped with the the Globe "World" logo and then filled with blue and yellow paint. They went onto my LC 4 door and replaced the 13x5.5 GTR rims that I was running. A mate bought a set of 14x6 SprintMasters at the same time for his HG, but the different size and offset made them look weird to me.

Interestingly, the extra 1/2" offset makes them more closely match the offset of the 13" wheels fitted to the HR and earlier Holdens, while the SprintMaster version with less offset more closely matches the offset on the Toranas.

I had a couple of problems with the RallyMasters. Firstly, the alloy was just a bit porous, and I found that I needed to run tubes. Secondly, when I fitted them on to the UC, the stick on weights that they need to run, fouled the rear disk brake calipers on my factory 4 wheel disk installation.

Try seller brettcnc on eBay. He doesn't have any on his eBay page at the moment, but he was making and selling copies of the different styles of Globe wheel nuts.

I was after a few of the washer type nuts to replace some damaged ones on my RallyMasters. I haven't had any dealings with him since 2007, but back then, he'd only sell them in full sets of 20 for about $90.
