I'm not a pimple on a painters bum!

I've never sprayed acrylic, but i have sprayed 2K.

Apart from my horrible technique, i thought it was quite easy! Good coverage, good result, & the paint seems to go a lot further.

I do my own prep, then take the car to a booth & pay a painter to color it in.

I think [just IMHO], that by the time you have etch & primed the car, you should know if you feel comfortable spraying the color.

Underside of boot/bonnet & door jambs are good practice panels. If you can get a good result doing that, then don't be afraid to tackle the outside.

If you have a go & stuff it up, you only have 1 person to blame.

it's just my opinion.why sit there cutting it back forever to get a good finish when you could just clear it? it really isn't hard to do. by all means anyone wanting to have a go thats great. i just don't get why people are so against trying to use 2k.

IMO 2k is a top system in every way and almost every aspect it is superior to acrylic.
The reason I am so against 2k is if you don't have the correct PPE and a proper spray booth and contained area for rub down it WILL make you and the environment sick.
Just the rub down alone from the hi fill on one car was enough to kill a neighbours veggie garden including his orange tree.

There are plenty of books available on the subject, too.

Heres some I prepared earlier.

http://dna-paints.co...intingbooks.htm

Its hard work, but incredibly satisfying to see the results of your labour.

Definitely have a go.

take them out it's alot better.

dirtbag thats the thing i am not a painter i'm a panel beater i have only sprayed a couple of times and i use 2k. thats what i am trying to get across i don't think it is that hard.

you do have to have a very clean enviroment but even if you do get dirt in your work all you have to do is cut the top off and give it a quick polish.

anyways good luck with the build mate

butchers paper is a lot better!!!
still on my 1st roll and it's done 2 and a half cars so far
ok one for the paint gurus is the iso free 2 pack any safer for you or the enviroment than aycrlic?
imo aycrlic is easier to use (at home anyway) and safer if you don't have the correct ppe/booth to spray with but ??????
convince me lol

lets talk about iso free clear

At my work the "touch up guy" paints cars in the carpark

a little sanding back, some primer then colour then lots of ISO free clear all over the place to make it look brand new and shiny.

lot easier than acrylic who needs a booth

Even acrylics a have the whole "only for use by professionals" thing on them.

ISO free 2k is better for the enviroment/your lungs than normal 2k....BUT ITS SHIT!!!

I've used it a few times, hate it.

yldlj: fast hardener is the devils work, if you need to use it you dont know what your doing....And you must be a really fast runner. Im usually reaching for the slow reducer personally.....

Im a 2k painter....And i'll suggest for a first timer to spray acrylic.

I painted my first car in acrylic in the back yard under a gum tree.....it looked ok:

That was when i was 15 and had no clue what i was doing....

Yes i have explained a lot of things at length on these forums previously...Most should show up in a search. One day i will bother to compile a proper type tutorial, i just need to bother to take enough photo's to accurately show what im trying to say.

Cheers.
