Gear box case colour?

there a dirty looking dark red...dont spray it rocket red

I think this has been discussed before. I believe that the paint is simply red oxide primer (not an actual colour). You can buy red oxide in a spray can but it seems to be brighter than the colour they used back then.

Hi Dave did you take any pics that you can throw up.Spot on Bazza red oxide primer I did mine in this and then clear coated it looks spot on.

I took the side plate off my gearbox and had the local paint shop colour match it.
I knew it was the original colour as you could still slightly see the yellow stencil mark.
Unfortunately, not enough to replicate the stencil.
The date codes on the box and bellhousing all match the car.
this is the can....maybe the code means something??

The linkages etc were zinc plated

Me too but I've never been too concerned with originality - it could be the camera flash making it look lighterThought it was a bit more maroon colour than that but it could have been from age...Nice.
