Hi

I think this has been discussed before. I believe that the paint is simply red oxide primer (not an actual colour). You can buy red oxide in a spray can but it seems to be brighter than the colour they used back then.

Cheers

Hi Dane,

I took the side plate off my gearbox and had the local paint shop colour match it.
I knew it was the original colour as you could still slightly see the yellow stencil mark.
Unfortunately, not enough to replicate the stencil.
The date codes on the box and bellhousing all match the car.

this is the can....maybe the code means something??

I sandblasted all the parts and used a POR15 product called brilliant Aluminium.
The linkages etc were zinc plated

Thought it was a bit more maroon colour than that but it could have been from age...Nice.

GP3 means Group 3, which is the grouping of the cost for the paint, goes by how many tinters are used in it and what those tinters are worth.

Not a paint code.

363 is a fairly good product.

Cheers.

Me too but I've never been too concerned with originality - it could be the camera flash making it look lighter

I will post a pic of mine up tonight. Mine is definetly more of a maroon colour very similar to red oxide primer. Another thing to consider there would have been a great variation of colours used after all it's a gearbox under a car I couldn't see Holden being too worried about variation of gearbox colour.

In regards to the XU lettering looks to be stamped to me and not a stencil type.I'm in the process of making up some stamps and going to have a test over the weekend.
